I hope you mean while watching the picture because M6 don’t support animated gif when the picture is set to background. Otherwise it’s it might be a new thing in the lastest firmware, I don't know.

unfortunately the player does still only play animated gif while watching them as a picture (that's why i wrote "26 wallpapers plus one animated gif").
