    Converting videos with MeGUI

Lately I've been wondering if I could better quality videos than the ones I get out of Batman, they stutter and the image quality is really bad when you look at the bitrate.

    So now I use MeGUI.
I use the following AviSynth script:

    AviSource("C:\Documents and Settings\***\Bureaublad\jaheim-never-xvid-2007-dynasty.avi")
    crop( 0, 10, 0, -10)

    BicubicResize(320,144,0.333,0.333) # Bicubic (Soft)
    #denoise
    TurnRight()
    ConvertFPS(20)

    With the following settings:

    Mode: Automated 2-pass
    Bitrate: 500kbps
    number of B-frames: 4
Motion Search Precision: 6 - Ultra High
    Min I-frame Quantizer: 1
    Min B-frame Quantizer: 1
    Min P-frame Quantizer: 1

    Max I-frame Quantizer: 6
    Max B-frame Quantizer: 6
    Max P-frame Quantizer: 6

    all parameters:

    -i "input" -pass2 ".stats" -bitrate 500 -kboost 100 -chigh 30 -clow 15 -overhead 0 -nopacked -vhqmode 4 -qmatrix "C:\Program Files\megui\extra\eqm_v3ulr_rev3.xcm" -closed_gop -lumimasking -imin 1 -imax 6 -pmin 1 -pmax 6 -max_bframes 4 -bvhq -bquant_ratio 162 -bquant_offset 0 -bmin 1 -bmax 6 -threads 1 -o "output"

The problem is that the video crashes my M6, I've tried lowering the bitrate to 350kbps, but it still crashes.
My M6 shows the progress bar, but not the correct length(usually around 13-17 seconds, whereas the actual video is over 4 minutes long)

The FOURCC is XVID, as it should be.

Here is the video with the bitrate at 350kbps(16MB):
    http://xgbeatz.com/Video/5-muxed.avi

Here is the video with the bitrate at 500kbps(21MB):
    http://xgbeatz.com/Video/6-muxed.avi

Here is the video converted with the "5" preset of Batman(18MB):
    http://xgbeatz.com/Video/%5bQ5%5d%20...s@20fps%5d.avi

(I cropped the one converted with MeGUI with a few pixels, but that shouldn't matter much.)

How can I let my videos play on my M6?

m6 can not handle a certain type of frames (I,P or B frames, i know it's 1 of them)
i dont know exactly wich one, but its somwhere in this forum (anyone knows where?)
(edit: i think it is the B-frames wich do not work)
thats wy batman produces lower quality also, the player can not handle them
the lengt of your video is probable the exact same as the position of the first "bad" frame.
    hope this helps.

    Thanks for the info.

I've encoded with no B-frames and it still crashes(at 14 secs)...

And I don't see an option to encode without P or I-frames...

Here is the vid w/o B-frames:

this is the reason wy i am using batman, becouse its relatively easy, and it 'just works'. I used virtualdub before that and it always worked correctly.

Perhaps he thinks you are just a helpful guy with video software and does not realise that you created Batman.

XG. I've used all different sorts of software and Batman has the best image quality of the lot. If it stutters after being converted by Batman then I suspect that it may have more to do with your source file than the converter software.

Yes, bad quality on the videos that I convert, not all, music videos go fine, but others(wich look great on pc) have lots of stuttering and noticable banding.

So it's absolutely not that I call Batman bad, It's super fantastic, I'm just experimenting myself to see if even higher quality is possible.

So, do you know why my videos don't play?
Even the one without B-frames crashes my player, with a bitrate that's lower than another one that does play fine.

I don't know MeGUI, so no. But your bitrate seems too high, and I see nothing in your parameters that limits it in any way. As soon as the peaks reach 500, the M6 will choke on it and crash.

just a quick question: does batman have the following: "Motion Search Precision: 6 - Ultra High"?
i'm asking becouse i beleive that it will make the quality of the videos better.

hm, that seems to be an xvid setting ? I am using libav codec in highest motion search range (4=wide).

yes, but since you have the "x" profile wich uses the xvid codec(is that right?) , maybe you could make use of this high precision mode?
i like the "x" profile, it seems to give me slightly better quality at the same bitrate, wy is it marked "experimental" ? it seems stable enough for me...

Qx already uses 6 for motion search. Read help 2.2 to learn why I call Qx (not XviD itself !) experimental.

ok, i just read it, like it said, it sometimes gives better images, and i like to use this a lot,
is there a way for me to encode in xvid in custom bitrates, or just the 1 profile?
if there is only the 1 profile, is there a way to edit this Qx profile to my preferences?

Yes, you can. Enter switch and e.g. "-xvidencopts bitrate=240". If you push it further than the 310 that Qx uses, you will see that the peaks in action scenes will make the M6 crash more likely. Help 2.2 tells you why.

oh ok, its a little harder to use than the normal usage, is there no way to make a seperate profile like QC where you can just pres c and enter and it begins?
i like the simplicity of the program, and having to add extra switched makes the usage a little more complex, but i guess its not really a problem for me anyway... i'll just have to remember to enter it everytime

no, you don't need to because the switch gets saved and recalled automatically ..

yes, but you do still need to enter "switch" right? how to set the audio bitrate, can i just combine this with another profile for that?

no, you don't need to enter switch, it gets loaded automatically. To modify the video and audio bitrate with Qx, you can use switch
    Code:
    -xvidencopts bitrate=240 -lavcopts abitrate=128

M6 can stand peaks in excess of 500k ; but it is a complex matter of for how long , what consecutive type frames , rise/decay, etc..

    ImageShack - Hosting :: batmandemovideohv6.jpg

other point : one can set a limit to bit rate in the parameters but in the end ...the codec rules
