Hi, thought I'd wrked it all out. I tried Batman to convert an entire DVD film but my Meizu would not play it. I then tried just five chapters and that worked perfect. But after getting to chapter 10 it started converting from the first chapter again. 1-5 was fine, 5-10 was fine, but 11-16 ended up as the film from the start to chapter 16. Is this a bug or did I do something wrong. Had same result with chapters 17-22. I am now trying chapters 1-33 (the whole film) and hoping my plyer can cope with it.

Hi Frescodk. First of all, the chapter separation does not work perfectly (there are some bugs in MEncoder). Other than that, there shoul dbe no reason why a whole movie doesn't play while a part of it does.
You should try the procedure at least with one other DVD, maybe there is something special with the one you were trying. IF (and only if) this behaviour continues, you should consider ripping the whole DVD down with an all-in-one Ripper like DVDShrink or AutoGK, and then convert the results with BatMan.
I own 15 DVDs and have converted all of them with BatMan - no problems. The only thing that didn't work properly with most of the DVDs was to rip single chapters with chapter numbers >6.

I've looked and I don't think I've seen this addressed anywhere else. Approximately how long does it take to rip and convert a DVD using Batman? I understand it depends on the size of the movie and how many passes, bitrate, etc. Say for example a 2 hour movie using a Q4 option. I've had a couple of DVDs I've tried to convert still running in Batman four hours later. I'm trying to figure out if it's the disc, the drive, or if this is normal.

I'm trying a different one now. I just hating wading through my DVDs if this is normal.

    Thanks

On my P4/3.2 with a 6x DVD it takes approx. 6 hours at Q4 for a 2-hour movie. If speed is your main goal, your should consider one of the following ways :
    - use SmartRipper (or any other Ripper) to rip the whole DVD down to a single vob on your harddisk, then use BatMan to convert the vob (with this method you can't use chapter separation)
    - use a DVD copy software to create an ISO image of your DVD. Mount it with Daemon Tools (or any other virtual dvd) and rip that normally with BatMan. This will speed things up to a larger degree because the drive plays no role any more.
    - use an all-in-one Ripper/Encoder like DVDShrink or AutoGK to rip the whole thing down to DivX/avi and convert the result with BatMan.

Thanks for the quick reply. I love the quality of the previous shorter videos I've converted with Batman. The length of time is well worth it, I just wasn't sure if it was normal to take that long or if I had a problem with the DVDs. Again thanks!

Hey Bobby Q, haven't talk to you in a while. Still loving batman and multiple batch files :D.

I have a question for you. I encoded a few shows and about 5 of them didn't play on my M6, I reencoded them using the 'repair' function and of course they did work.

Now, instead of having to run into that problem in the world where I won't be by my computer, could I just 'repair' every video regardless if needed or not to guarentee it works everytime? Do you have a reason why I should not? Thanks.

yes, the repair feature is designed as a "last way out" because it includes such nifty things as creating a new index, cutting out broken data and converting the whole thing twice. This can lead to some loss of quality and an impredictable a/v desynchronization, depending on which data had been corrupt.
Just use it if you can't play your video. Of course if you know that a lot of videos of a certain source have difficulties, it makes sense to just try the repair on them first.

.flv videos are usually heavily compressed. No way to get a good quality out of them. It won't get any better than with Q5.

Hello ANy help will be appreciated. I just got Meizu miniplayer4GB. I mainly got it to listen to my video lectures. Here is the problem I am facing while converting using Batman. I have 20 lecture CD. Each CD has titles raning from 7-8. Now when I put the Video_TS (which is the IFO type) on the Batman Icon, the black window starts and it asks me couple of questions and finally just before writing files to the output folder, the whole screen disappears.

I read the Help, and tried downloading virtualdub and even virtualdub wouldnt convert my dvd files and gives an error. The other files that I tried separately include: VIDEO_TS.BUP, VIDEO_TS.VOB, VTS_01_0, VTS_01_0.BUP, VTS_01_0.VOB, ETC....

Can anyone help me help install even one or two files at a time on the mediaplayer.

Hi, I guess you want to have your 20 chapters in separate files. While BatMan is able to do a chapter separation, it does not work with chapters > 6 all the time (this is a bug in mencoder). So there is another - even quicker - way for you to do it.
Google for SmartRipper and use it to rip your dvd down to hard disk. In SmartRippers settings, check "File Splitting : every chapter". That way you will get 20 single .vob files which you can easily convert with BatMan in one shot. And one more info on the so called AID (audio ID) : SmartRipper will show you the AID of your audio tracks in the Stream Processing window e.g. 080 (which is hexadecimal for 128) - you should remember that value and enter that in BatMan when it asks you for the AID (in decimal). If you enter the wrong AID, you don't get the right audio language or even no sound at all.

    Thanks for the info.

Just FYI. I have 20 DVDs (not clear from my previous post). Each DVD has about 7-8 chapters or titles (whatever they are called) on it. I first tried ripping/converting just the Video_TS_info file throught Batman, but after a few prompts the whole black screen of batman disappeard. Also If I try converting individual files eg.VOB, .BUP or .IFO (directly from the DVD), again the black window screen of batman disappears after asking me some questions. Interestingly the very first DVD (sample lectures) which I tried converting only converted 1 chapter/title out of 7 despite ripping the entire DVD, but that was the only time batman DID converted.

Thanks again for your advise, I'll get smartripper and try using that.

That wouldn't have worked anyway. Either you drag the VIDEO_TS.IFO or the drive icon, everything else is not supported.
Just try the SmartRipper way I told you above and it will work.

If SmartRipper really has problems (I have never had any problems with it), you can use another DVD Ripper of your choice (anyDVD, DVD Decrypter, DVDShrink etc ..), but I won't be able to help you with them because I simply don't have them ..
Are you sure that your DVD drive is properly worling ? Can you still actually watch the movie on your laptop ? Also you have to free up enough space to rip a DVD, approx 3-7 GB (usually the ripping program tells you how much).

I think i don't have enuff space on my laptop. The DVD works fine on the laptop. I really appreciated your help, thanks. Let me tell you the errors I get when I use Smart Ripper:

    1. When I first start SR, it gives an error message: "no ASPI-Adapter available"

2.I tried clicking on the NoASPI (msdos) file and then it gives this message:
"Some files are still locked, try to unlock with a player", obviously after pressing "abort", "retry" nothing happens. If I press on "ignore" i get the following screen:

    3. I belive the main SR screen which has the option for "MoVIES", "FILE", & "BACKUP". naturally I tried movies first: THere are 7 Titles. WHen I select Title 1 (27 MB), it opens "+ program chain 1", clicking on which opens "+Angle 1 (00:00:03)". It then lets me to select "chapter 1, and "cell" ( I believe thats the number of chapters on Title 1 and its 03 seconds?)

If I select Title 3 (3342 MB), it opens "+ program chain 1", clicking on which opens "+Angle 1 (00:00:03)". It then lets me to select "chapter 1 through 28, and "cell"

    4. I selected Title 5, and then its askd me twice "quit ripping?" I pressed NO. and then when I checked my output folder through windows explorer, there are 2 files there: vts_05.d2v and vts_05.idx. Both of which are 1 kb.

Now when I go through FILES section of the SR, each Title has 2 vob files, eg, there are two VTS_03_1.VOB files, I select both (at this point the required space is still less than that available on Hardisk). The computer does some thinking and grunting and the screen states: Current Key "not encrypted". After about progress of 47%, target output position still remains @ 0 KB and under Code Info: current key: not encrypted and encrypted and unencrypted blocks are 0, and broken blocks are: 507904.....
