Thanked 0 Times in 0 PostsThe way I understood your post in the other thread is you run it Batman with advanced "repair" option, it will produce another file of the original size and quality, then you do it again, and get file for M6, right?

I tried holding for close to 10 s and indeed it worked. Then I tried 3rd file, and that one had no problems either.
Thanks for your help.Last edited by ObviousMan; 08-16-2007 at 01:59 AM.

you're welcome.
"repair" does more than that, it cuts out corrupt data in the beginning and creates a new avi header afterwards.BatMan, the free video converter for Meizu players. Problems ? English First Aid here. Deutsche Erste Hilfe hier.

Thanked 0 Times in 0 PostsHey BobbyQ. Is there a way that you could support multiple cores. For example, determine the number of CPU's someone has either automatically or by user input. For each CPU run a mencoder.
I did four drag and drops but when it finished the first pass it they all crashed. Can someone confirm this as well?
I like your program. I just which I could set up the custom profile once and not every time. Thanks.

@kech : you have to run BatMan.exe with admin rights under Vista (this was mentioned in the BatMan thread as well). Microsoft thinks that annoyance creates a form of security ..
so you'll have to go to C:/Program Files/Batman/BatMan.exe (or wherever your programs are), right click and modify the permissions.
@Fluffywings : it does already support 2 cores. Only this is not done by running multiple mencoders (which is not possible unless someone tries to split the video in a half ..), but by using multiple "threads". However, I have heard that by doing so, not both CPUs will use 100% of their capacity.
The multi-threading feature is an integral part of mencoder, hopefully they will further develop on that in the future to make you multi-core guys happy. Can't do any decisive tests because I have only single core here with hyperthreading.
About the custom profile : you can hit Enter to bring up a default value for each line. I might be able to replace that value with a saved one from your last use. So you would end up hitting 6 times Enter. How does that sound ?
I am on a short trip until next Tuesday, then I could take a look at it.BatMan, the free video converter for Meizu players. Problems ? English First Aid here. Deutsche Erste Hilfe hier.

Hey Fluffwings. I just realized that I have already started working on the custom profile to be saved before, and have been already finished. So I could set it up this morning with only half the time I'd have expected it to take.
Load the new release, and recall your Qc settings by just pressing enter for each value :-)
Also today's release features brand new speed improvements, and much better multi-core support. I'd be happy to hear from your testing results in the BatMan thread.
@Madman : thank you for your nice screenshot, I have linked that to the BatMan thread.BatMan, the free video converter for Meizu players. Problems ? English First Aid here. Deutsche Erste Hilfe hier.

Hi kech,
real media 8+9 video codecs are now supported, get the latest BatMan and they should work. I never tried to convert .rmvb videos before so I didn't notice the codecs were missing.BatMan, the free video converter for Meizu players. Problems ? English First Aid here. Deutsche Erste Hilfe hier.

Thanked 0 Times in 0 PostsHey BobbyQ
I am trying to do some testing. I have a Quad Core CPU (Q6600 @ 3Ghz) which can make video encoding quite fast.
Every time I try to do a custom profile. After I hit enter for the last time, everthing with Batman/Mencoder just closes and a file with 0kb is left there.
In fact I cannot even click on the 0KB file. I crashes explorer.exe. To get rid of it I must select an original file, then holding shift, select the 0KB files using the arrow keys, then holding ctrl I unselect the original files. Then I shift+delete to skip the recycle bin.
When I use the profiles you set up this isn't a problem.
This also occurs if I do 4 Drag and Drops, except it will do a single pass before crashing.
With a single instance of mencoder running, only 1 core is being used at max, the other 3 sit at idle so I see no multi threading occuring.
As for my questions, when you go through a custom profile you get many options. I would like the settings of your Q4 and Q5 detailed such as action scene limt bitrate, etc so I can modify those to see if I can create my own profile using your as templates.
Second, when I run more then 1 instance of mencoder (drag and drop multiple times), I notice that there is a temp file named pass1. I assume you store information of the first pass in order to run the 2nd pass. Well I believe the generic name of pass1 is conflicting with the multiple instances of mencoder. Would it be possible to create a temp file based on the name of the file being encoded? Currently I found a work around. Have four folders. Each folder will be an instance of mencoder. Since the temp file is root to the original file, it will create the temp file in that folder avoiding mix ups.
Also, could the quality setting such as Q4 or Q5 etc be appended with birate/fps at the end of the name. When the list of videos shows up on the M6, there is only so much room and sometimes it pushes the episode name off the screen and I don't want to wait for it to scroll through the name.
Just curious. What are the Special Commands?
I apologize if this post is long and/or incoherent. I am very tired.
PS. You made a very nice front end encoder BobbyQ. I would like to see it be peoples #1 way to convert videos for there M6's.
PSS Settings I tried for Custom Profile that crashed.
Bitrate: 432
Action Scene Limit: 450
Audio: 80
Audio Freq: 32000
FrameRate: 20
Pass: 2
Bitrate: 430

A few more but I forgetLast edited by Fluffywings; 08-21-2007 at 07:46 AM.

Holy conversion problem, Robin !
you have found a bug that made mencoder crash every time you go above 400 kbps with Qc. Fixed in the version I just uploaded.
Freeze !This also occurs if I do 4 Drag and Drops, except it will do a single pass before crashing.
multiple instances of BatMan were never supported (though it is possible under certain circumstances like extra folders) ! If you want to batch-encode, you gotta drag and drop the files AT ONCE, not after another.
That shouldn't be so since mencoder uses multiple threads (threads <> processes !) with BatMan. Other people have already told me that it works with dualcore cpus. I am sorry that I can't properly test it, because I have only single core cpus here. Do you know any other mencoder based converter that makes your cores get into business ?With a single instance of mencoder running, only 1 core is being used at max, the other 3 sit at idle so I see no multi threading occuring.
The premade profiles like Q5 contain more strategies than you can see with Qc, and I decided to keep the custom profile as effective and simple as possible. The purpose of Q5 has always been to give you the best quality technically possible, so don't expect additional Qc settings to ever surpass the quality of Q5. Qc lets you find your own compromise between file size, quality and encoding speed.I would like the settings of your Q4 and Q5 detailed such as action scene limt bitrate, etc so I can modify those to see if I can create my own profile using your as templates.
yeah that works. Did I get you right that you are using this method only to be able to make use of your multi-core cpu to its full extend ?Well I believe the generic name of pass1 is conflicting with the multiple instances of mencoder. Currently I found a work around. Have four folders.
It shouldn't be that way, see multi-threading above. Still if it works for you, why not. Maybe I can base the pass1/pass2/pass3 information on file names in one of the next versions. But I'd be more interested in solving your multi-threading problem in the first place.
I see the problem, but I like the quality info in the begining so I have a better overview during tests. Also, could the quality setting such as Q4 or Q5 etc be appended with birate/fps at the end of the name. When the list of videos shows up on the M6, there is only so much room and sometimes it pushes the episode name off the screen and I don't want to wait for it to scroll through the name.
Personally I am using this method to prevent displaying problems :
rather than
/The Simpsons/The Simpsons - Season 4 - E01 Roswell that ends well.avi
I name it
/The Simpsons S4/E01 Roswell that ends well.avi
or
/The Simpsons/S4E01 Roswell that ends well.avi
and have no problems. I have always had standalone network video players in the living room, so this problem is not new to me.
they get explained in the help file you invoke with "?".Just curious. What are the Special Commands?
no problem for me, but since this looks more than support for BatMan than general video converting information, you should carry your next questions to the BatMan thread. Then again, maybe some of the questions answered here contain some general lore for the users of other programs as well.I apologize if this post is long and/or incoherent. I am very tired.
PS. You made a very nice front end encoder BobbyQ. I would like to see it be peoples #1 way to convert videos for there M6's.

Thanked 0 Times in 0 PostsWell after running 4 instances of Batman/Mencoder, using seperate folders, none of the files completed. I guess only 1 instance can run at a time.

Thanked 0 Times in 0 PostsI read that mencoder does support multiple threads. However with most encoders I have used for the miniplayer, they do not use multiple cores. I was running multiple instances of Iriverter to get my encoding done. However I like the settings you have and the rotating of the video.
I understand. I was just trying to see if it would work because of other front ends did work for me. I was batch encoding but with four batches to take advantage of my four cores.Freeze ! multiple instances of BatMan were never supported (though it is possible under certain circumstances like extra folders) ! If you want to batch-encode, you gotta drag and drop the files AT ONCE, not after another.
I in no way expect my Qc settings to surpass the quality of Q5. I just would like to tweak the video and audio bitrate to my preferences. For tv shows, I don't need more then 80kpbs audio rate at 32khz. And that savings in audio bitrate I would like to add to the video bitrate. Yes I know im picky :PThe premade profiles like Q5 contain more strategies than you can see with Qc, and I decided to keep the custom profile as effective and simple as possible. I like that idea. Currently I usually don't even edit the name of the file. I just download, convert and watch. But maybe I will do that in the future.I see the problem, but I like the quality info in the begining so I have a better overview during tests.

Thanked 0 Times in 0 PostsHey Bobby Q,
I would like to test to see how many threads uses the most out of my cpu. Would you be able to compile me a specialized version of batman that gives me a way to manually set the number of threads? Let me know if you can. Thanks.

Thanked 0 Times in 0 PostsAfter a week of work on BobbyQ's part he has now added multiple drag and drops.
BobbyQ has been working on this program for a long time. I suggest to all that use his program to send a donation his way. He is using his spare time to make this awesome front end for us M6 users.
Now I only wish I could change the default profiles
.
