Hi all,
Don't know if anyone's noticed this, but I have. I have a 2GB M6 and it is easily filled up. I usually only have 3 to 5 MB of free space left. On my M6, I recently put a video of length 90 minutes and size 300MB, converted using BatMan.
When the player has around 50MB of free space, the video plays fine. But when I have around 5MB of free space, the video doesn't start to play at all. It goes into "loading" mode, and then jumps straight out to the video selection menu.
Anyone know anything about this? Maybe the video needs some sort of pre-loading memory? I have also noticed that small videos of sizes ~10MB will still play with 5MB of free space.
Any information or comments regarding this topic much appreciated.Meizu M8 MiniOne

Video is cached to memory, I think Blackstar worked out somewhere between 20-30 MB free space is needed for the average movie.

Thanked 0 Times in 0 PostsI see, it has been noticed. Thanks for actual advice in number form. Will try to free space. Maybe there is a ratio of free space-to-video-cache-size... lol.

Interesting. Does anyone know if fragmentation has any influence on flash memory performance ?

good to know, I consider this as confirmed, so it should be listed in the forum FAQ as well. Is Err0r the one maintaining the FAQ ?

I have read that it exists, but since it does not involve any mechanical movements, it has much less influence on the performance, depending on the controller and architecture. Since it has usually such a minor influence, you are kind of right by saying that it doesn't exist.
Oh, and happy new year. Twice ;-)

That was kind of late...
Anyways, it's actually a bad idea since flash memory has a finite amount of write cycles, and defragmenting it would just contribute to its death.

Yes, there are finite write cycles, but it is so large it is irrelevant. You could continuously read/write on a normal USB Thumbdrive for 5 years straight. I doubt defragmentation is a problem.
If you are having trouble with your player, please visit this thread first and try the steps before you panic. Most likely you will be able to fix your player easily using the steps listed.

It isn't a problem, but the fact that it provides almost no performance benefit means that you are shortening the life of the SSD for no reason.
