DVD copies won't play
I have various DVD series (Arrested Development/24/ER etc) that I was hoping to convert so I can play an occassional episode on the M6 (e.g. when in the doctors surgery waiting room/dentist/lunchtime at work etc).
However, If I rip the DVD to my hard drive, convert to AVI (various methods used) reduce down for M6 specification (again various methods tried), when I select the file on the M6, the screen goes blank like it is about to play the episode, then it reverts back to the file list.
I have checked the file specifications (320x240 15/18/20fps 384 bitrate etc) and all should be ok.
Anyone experiencing this or have any suggestions?

What methods/software have you used to convert the AVI? What XVid settings?
You didn't say you rotated the video to the right over 90 degrees. I don't know if the player chokes if you don't do that, but we have to eliminate all possible causes of failure.

1. To move the DVD to hard drive I have used either:
a. DVD Shrink
b. DVD Decrypter
2. To convert the VOB's (I have converted at maximum quality/Home Theatre [PAL] settings) to AVI/DivX/XviD I have used either:
a. DrDivX 2.0
b. WinMEnc 0.61
c. ConvertMovie 4.0
3. To move the AVI down to M6 acceptable format I have used either:
a. WinMEnc 0.61
b. VirtualDub 1.6.17
c. Badak
Regarding settings for point 3, I have used various settings, but in all cases ones posted in these forums.
If I have an AVI (such as a torrent XviD AVI of Lost Season 3) I can convert this to M6 format really easily and it works first time.
It's only converting from VOB's to AVI to M6 format that seems to be a problem. Looking at the file properties, all appear to match the M6 requirements.

If you're using XviD, make sure b-frames are NOT enabled. Apparently the miniplayer doesn't like b-frames. An easier way to dodge this problem is to just use DivX.

Thanked 0 Times in 0 PostsUse a pixelheight that is dividable by 16. That fixed the same problem for me!

I've downloaded CloneDVDmobile, but can't find a XviD preset. There is a DivX preset, but that goes to 25fps.
B frames in all my settings are not selected and pixelheight is set to 16

I've had my M6 choke on a file that was very large (over 600 MB). I had to chop that one in two to get it working, but since you say you are converting episodes of TV shows, I assume they aren't that large.
The M6 also doesn't play XVid's encoded with the 'Quarter Pixel' and 'Global Motion Compensation' options enabled. However, since your other encodes do work, I guess you have these settings in a correct way.
This is very strange. I don't understand why your downloaded avi's do work and your own DVD rips don't.
Hmm, I just noticed you use Home Theatre [PAL] settings to convert your DVD's. Didn't I read somewhere that you should use Home Theatre [NTSC]?

Thanked 0 Times in 0 PostsI can save you a step.
Use DVD Shrink to rip to hard drive. I suggest Reauthoring it for just the main title. Once its on the hard drive just use Iriverter with M6 profile. It handles the dvd folders (VIDEO_TS, AUDIO_TS) straight to M6 settings.
Iriverter with Meizu M6 Profile. Works great. Simple and effective.
Iriverter Download
M6 Iriverter Profile
I suggest video 432kbps and audio 80 kbps for everything from movies to tv shows to cartoons.
NOTE: My not work with some .wmv sources. You need to convert from .wmv to something else before iriverter can convert it.Last edited by Fluffywings; 12-21-2006 at 09:26 AM. Reason: forgot something

Thanks Fluffywings, although this program also uses mencoder in the background, it seems to work.
