Absolutely the best results for video quality and steady looking fps

I didn't want to put this into any other thread because they are about one encoder and this makes the point more clear, about what this thread consists of.

Previously I encoded my movies with winmenc and ran it through again with virtualdub. As I do now, BUT, the settings I used BEFORE were:

    Winmenc
    - 384kbs 20fps (320x240) for video, DivX
    - 192kbs 48000hz for audio, mp3 stereo (default audio stream might work, but it's the safest way to use 5.1 audio stream to avoid mistakes the program makes, like it picks up commentary stream or german dubbing, 5.1 will be converted into 2.0)
    - on extra settings, on general "-delay -0.280"

    Then with virtualdub
-setting described in here VirtualDub-MPEG2 (audio settings must be same as with winmenc to avoid problems, for me 192kbs 48000hz) Though I had to raise the volume on virtualdub to 650% with lotr the two towers extended edition to get reasonable voice out of it!

These settings produced video which had unsteady framerate, like it skipped 2-3frames very often.

But today I tried something different. I did a lot of testing with some settings and a resulted to following. I decoded "lotr: ttt extended, disc 1" with same programs, but with chances:

    Winmenc:
    - 2000kbs 25fps (320x240) for video ( ORIGINAL FPS in the movie), DivX
    - audio: same as before (be careful with defaul stream if you use it)
    - EDIT: on extra settings, on general "-delay -0.200" virtualdub ( You might try values up to -0.260 if -0.200 isn't enough)

    Virtualdub
    - same as before
    - audio: when encoding audio from 5.1 -> 2.0 the sound level drops a lot, so 650% more volume is recommended as before ( at least for the movies I tested with shure e4, watch your ears if this volume is somehow too high )

These settings resulted in very steady framerate and better picture quality. This is what I expected from this device as movie player, now I can only enjoy! Animatrix and "lotr: ttt extended" succesfully encoded.

The main problem for me was that some dvd:s contain multible .VOBs (video files) which can't be encoded as one whole film. But with settings mentioned above, one movie file is created without too much effort ( once you get the settings complete ).

PS: encoding through 2 programs and delaying the sound weren't my ideas, but I didn't notice mentions about the settings I described above. I though that the video was to be encoded with 20fps and 384kbs for video with BOTH programs. Feel free to correct me if I have misundestood or missed something. Either way, I'm very happy now

    I keep updating this message.

25 fps? doenstthe meizu max out at 18? 25 would be overkill resulting in larger files...

doyou mean 2000 or 200 kbs?
how big is the file you ended up with after conversion comapred to the original?

You run it first through winmenc, the filesize after that doesn't matter (Bigger the better for re-encode with virtualdub) because after that you will encode it with virtualdub to desired size. The high quality 2000kbs 25fps is just the one you shrink to 384kbs 20fps with virtualdub. I goes like this:

    winmenc results in 2000kbs 25fps -> re-encode with virtualdub -> 384kbs 20fps

PS: Remember that this 25fps is just the one which was in my source video, european dvd fps standart is 25, so I used it.

Of course the best choice would be to first make direct copys of the movie with winmenc (video+audio), but at 320x240 resolution. It didn't work for some reason.

Could you encode a short section of the movie with these settings and upload it somewhere? I'd like to see for myself what it looks like.

Do you know such place to upload? I tried youtube but if I put it there it must be made without "rotating 90' right" due resolution limits. If I put it there without rotation you would have to encode it again with virtualdub, which doesn't give you the original quality.

Upload to www.box.net or similar service for larger files.
Can't wait to play with the Meizu MX!

Yeah, I meant upload it to an online file storage site, like the one Err0r mentioned, or rapidshare, or something like that.

I have uploaded the sample clip here: http://rapidshare.com/files/5469359/m6lotr.avi.html , it should play straight off your m6, at least mine did with TP version, firmware T1.010

Err0r, www.box.net supports only files sizes up to 10MB, so I wouldn't recommend that

It deppends, if you have files smaller thant 10Mb and you dont want to wait for tickets to download files or watch tons of advertising.... box.net is the best option

This looks pretty good, qscq. Although I did have two moments where playback stopped for a fraction of a second (a 'stutter', or 'hickup'), but the video quality is very good.
I have the lotr dvd as well, so I'll give it a try myself. See how it compares.

If you surpass 15fps, you will drop frames during high motion scenes. I used to have it around 18/20 fps and would get some dropped frames. With 15fps I never drop frames.
