since lot of people having trouble converting videos to their miniplayer i thought i make a video editing guide using virtualdub. i think this is the best video editing/converting software, and it's easy to use after you have completed this guide
if there's any problem with it please let me know and i correct it as soon as possible.
i knew there was a youtube video about this...but i haven't read Err0r's post . anyway, i hope it can help a few people who are having trouble viewing videos without subtitles
Alright, that link at the top is nice but...
I can't get my video to come out quite right. Setting everything up the way is says cropped way too much video, maybe I did something wrong. So I played around with it. I was trying to convert a wide screen file, wider than 320x240. I can get the file to play in the original aspect ratio with black bars on the top and bottom, but I wanted to eliminate those bars by cropping the sides. No luck so far, I can't find a way to get the picture converted to 320x240 without stretching the image.

You still want to resize the video, but theres two different ways to do this:
Touch window from Inside - smaller, adds black bars top & bottom
Touch window from Outside - larger, crops video at left and right side
No idea on the settings for virtualdub, I rarely use it, but hope that helps a little atleast. The settings may have different names, the above were taken from the menus in Media Player Classic (View > Video Frame).

you can't eliminate the black bars from a widescreen movie without cropping... but if that's you want to do you have to set the resize filter to "Crop to aspect ratio" and type in 4:3 to the boxes. i hope this helps.

You'd be better off using Advanced Simple @ L2 profile in XviD with two pass encoding. In the second pass set the bitrate to about 256 kbps (down from the default 384 for this profile). This should avoid VBV violations which cause stutter when you play the file back on the M6. You'll never see the difference on the small screen of the M6 and your files will be smaller.
96 kbps audio is a bit low if you are after decent sound. Use 128 kbps CBR (ABR or VBR causes problems when seeking on the M6). And you need at least +500 msec audio skew delay, otherwise your sound will be badly out of sync with the video (until Meizu fix this in their firmware).

thanks for the tips! i'll give it a try next time. the reason why i wrote 96kbps is that many movies' sound is encoded with it. so converting the 96kbps to 128 or better wouldn't make any sense. but you're right of course, i should have mentioned this

The settings are fantastic! Thanks
