Two-pass encoding is a setting that encodes the video two times. This takes much longer than only encoding it once but uses the bitrate more efficiently and will result in a higher quality video.
Can't wait to play with the Meizu MX!

encoding's main purpose is to reduce the file size. so encoding performance is primarily measured by filesize while maintaining a set level of quality. therefore film length will not be affected.

think of it as a homework assignment. if you do it once, it might take you 10 minute. if you go back to check your answers/spelling/whatever, it might take you an extra 10 minutes. a second pass makes the result better (more correct answers/smaller filesize) but takes longer to do.

Yes... using two pass encoding will not result in longer or shorter movies, and in general, the file sizes from one or two pass encodings (all other settings being equal) will be the same.

    The two important differences are:

    * increased encoding time. It might take twice as long to encode the same file with two-pass encoding as opposed to one-pass.

    * (much) increased encoding quality. The video will look much much better if you use two pass encoding. However, seeing as how the Miniplayer screen is quite small, I wonder if using 2-pass encoding would really be worth the effort (it really does help when you are creating larger DivX or Xvid files that you plan on watching on a TV set).
