    Meizu Death by Sweat

OK, I read the "sticky" posts and several dozen others in technical before posting this. Was riding the exercise bike a few days ago and dripped a lot of sweat into the M6SL where the USB connector and earphone jack is. The unit's touchpad has not worked correctly since. AT first I used a hairdryer on the end of the unit and when that did not solve the problem, I took it apart (removed metal backing) and used a hairdryer to dry up any excess moisture. It has been turned on and off at least 200 times since then. It has been "workable" maybe 3 times. Otherwise the touchpad mostly doesn't register, except it's sometimes able to go down by just one selection (in menu) with a full downward motion. I cannot select or enter anything either. The volume is at 00 and won't go up. The only way to switch songs is to go forward and backward.

How can some dripping sweat render my SL unusable ever again? I thought this would resolve in time by drying out. I have let the unit run out of power completely and recharged the battery. I have hard-reset the unit (erasing everything) and re-upgraded the firmware to version M6SL_V2.004.4. I have tried turning it on with a pen (so the touchpad doesn't calibrate its center down by the play/pause button). The few times it was workable it still didn't scroll smoothly like it used to. It took persistence to get the volume up to 15 or so. I am unaware of any different variables when it was workable compared to when it isn't. Nothing seems to matter.

    Please, any ideas are welcome...

    Help!

if you feel lucky, bath it in distilled water for 20 minutes, carefully and slowly shake it to loosen the stuck dirt, let the water run off and then let it dry slowly. Should work best when you open the case first.
*** I absolutely don't advice you to do this, but I heard stories of people reviving their dead players with this technique ***

Thanks for the advice Bobby, but I actually tried something different. I won't waste your time by telling you all the intermediate steps I took that didn't work. A week later now, I finally have my m6sl working at an acceptable level. I saved an old m6sl (broken screen) for its spare parts in case of a situation like this. I opened both units, removed the board from the newer broken one and put in the old board. I bought a soldering iron for this as I had to remove the battery contacts from the board and re-solder them to the old (new) board. The unit works flawlessly like it did the day I bought it. Unfortunately I inadvertantly cracked my screen in one spot (one line diagonal crack lower right hand corner). No biggie so far.

When I compare my meizu to another cheap mp3 player, there is no comparison when it comes to the sound. The spatializer and EQ just make so much clearer and better sound on the meizu.

Moral: Just don't wear it around your neck when you are sweating profusely.

also if there is still moisture in it and you know how to take it aart and put it back together.....

    1. take it apart
    2. put it in raw uncooked rice for 3-4 hours in a dry place
    3. put back together.

might seem weird but the rice absorbs more than sand, towels, etc.
