How to reinstall M6 SP from scratch ?

    Huho.

My brother gave me his old mp3 player a while back, a m6 sp, and when i got it it had a few viruses on it etc, but it never really bothered me that much seeing how they didn't seem to be "active", just quaranteened the files and never heard about it again.

Yesterday the mp3 sorta made me a funny joke, not turning on at all anymore for some reason, but i fixed it with the 30s enter thingy to reset, i guess somehow the contrast got messed up in my pocket or something.

Either way, i had already downloaded new firmwares and all that, so i thought why not just give it a clean start. And that's when the "don't do that kind of stuff at 1 am while already half asleep" rule should have been applied, but didn't, i basically misread the faq and just formatted it via windows, right-click/format/thereyougo. So now it's pretty much empty of anything, basically. I've been trying to figure out a way to get some files that would allow it to "understand" how to turn itself on again so i can update firmware, but with no luck. I can still copy files on it, my computer detects it and everything, it's just that it's completely empty. I'm sorry if this has been asked already, I haven't seen anything concerning this particular problem, but I might have overlooked some things seeing my current fatigue.

If anyone has a solution, it would be more than greatly appreciated!

P.S. : I have absolutely no idea if there was an install or reinstall CD with the mp3 player or something, my brother basically just brought me the player and the usb cable back from China and that's it. I hope I'm not missing anything haha.

I suppose that's a no, guess I'll have to buy another mp3. Can't find anything about this anywhere on the net, so eh.

Maybe you can describe it better at which point you are stuck.

Did you format it as FAT32 (you should have) and can you still see the player under XP?

If the filesystem is still accessible (you can copy files from pc), I think you just need to reinstall the firmware. You can find how to do that in the FAQ.

Oh, sorry I thought it was quite clear, I'll explain again

I did format it as FAT32 (I actually had the presence of mind to check the "current" format before i chose which one to format it with), and yes I can still see it under XP. I can access it just like a normal USB key or external HD, I just don't have the system files on it anymore.

@nice2know_u : To install the firmware, you need to be able to boot the mp3. Seeing how there's absolutely no file left on mine, it's not booting anymore. Or maybe it's actually dead or something ? I don't think so, because until i removed everything from it with the format, it was still on and working properly. I'll give it a go when I wake up tomorrow though, you never know.. Might find out I did something wrong!

    Thanks for the answers!

As long as you can see it as a drive, you can update it with new firmware. Just grab any SP firmware, unzip/unrar it and drag and drop the m6.ebn and Resource.bin into your player's drive icon. Unplug your player and restart it, then wait for 5 minutes. All should be well. Hope this helps.
If you are having trouble with your player, please visit this thread first and try the steps before you panic. Most likely you will be able to fix your player easily using the steps listed.

Players: Meizu M6 SP 4GB, iPod Touch 4G
Headphones: SoundMAGIC PL-50s, Auvio In-Ear Armatures, Bose QC-15s.
Current Audio Congifuration: X-Fi Elite Pro w/LM4562 Mod -> Mission MS-50 + Boston Acoustics Subwoofer

That's the point i don't understand- as long as you can access the player through your PC it's still on.

If you format the player with your PC and unplug it, it will usually show "update music library" and freeze. If you force it to shut down then (by pressing Enter for 20 seconds), it will stick at "loading...." if you turn it on again.

I'd suggest you to try this:

    Disconnect the player from PC.
Force it to shut down (press Enter for 20 seconds)
Press and hold "Play" and "<<" until you see a purple screen "low level formatting... please wait..."
the screen will turn black and a green screen "no resource... please update resource again..." will come up.
Now you can connect your M6 to the PC and copy the 'resource.bin' to your player. It has to be the resource for the firmware that has previously been installed- if you are unsure take both 'm6.EBN' and 'resource.bin'.

Many thanks to all of you, It was indeed that easy. For some reason though, I'm thinking the contrast problem (or whatever it actually was) turned up again, because until i forced it to shut down by pressing Enter for 20s, it simply wouldn't turn on, hence my thought of it being dead or something.

I got it all back now, just did the settings and gonna add some music again.

    Thank you all!
