Conflicting free space Windows / Linux

    Hi,

If I plug my M6 into a winxp machine then it reports 1G of free space, when I plug it into my linux machine the system reports it as full. Interestingly when (under linux) I add up the calculated sizes of the folders the result confirms that there is 1G free).

Could this be a max number of files or inode or file system issue ?

    Any suggestions much appreciated.

    Thanks

there might be a hidden trash folder. did you check that? if that doesn't help - format your player using linux. This solved my free space problem.

    Hi,

It turns out to be a problem with win xp and cache / non-cache write to USB devices. It looked as if there had been an error in some form of file system flag setting. All sorted now thanks but the motto has to be "steer clear of windows".

    Cheers

So what did you do to sort this out? Just curious because I might run into a similar problem...

I suggested steering clear on windows because it was a windows error that produced the problem. If you change the default behaviour for that device under windows (direct write through as opposed to cache-write) then both OSs see the truth. A system (ie windows) that corrupts a device so that only windows can evaluate it is philosophically unsound.
