How the heck do you pronounce "Meizu", anyway?

I got my SP Miniplayer 3 days ago, and am proudly showing off to anyone who doesn't run away fast enough. The only problem is that whenever I tell someone what it is I wonder if I'm pronouncing "Meizu" wrong.

When I was first trying to find my player, I called Dane-Elec trying to find a seller. They pronounced it as "May-zoo". The other two pronunciations that occur to my US English mindset are "Me-zoo" and "My-zoo".

Which is it? - - Am I completely wrong?

Thanks! I didn't have the benefit of the advertisement video. My player had nothing on it coming out of the box. I think it might have something to do with the Dane-Elec branding.

It's the romanization of Chinese characters.

If you want to pronouce it correctly, it isnt MeiZu.
It is pronounced exactly as read here: "May Zhu"
May is pronounced in 4th tone (ˋ)
Zhu pronounced in 2nd tone. (ˊ)

Just spreads the confusion... because some people tend to pronounce "Mei" as "Mee" or "Mai". Correct is "May"

I reckon "Zoo" isn't the correct pronunciation. Because "Zoo" produces a "zuuuu" sound, where as "MeiZu"'s "Zu" is more of a Zhu sound (if you know how to say pig in chinese, it is the same pronunciation except in the 4th tone).

OK to clear things up, say "Jew" and "Zoo" one after another, really fast. You should be able to pronounce it in such a way that the "w" in "jew" disappears, so it becomes more like "je-oo". Confusing? btw You have to say "Jew" and "Zoo" really fast, really really fast the get this effect. If you say it slowly, you will get a zoo full of jews. :O

There are surprisingly many wrong guesses in this thread. Actually only Err0r the Administrator gets the pronunciation right. But since even the English dude in the Meizu video can't pronounce it right, I guess it's with good reason.

As Err0r said, the romanization is "mèizú". The first part is pronounced as "May" the month, but in a falling tone, like you're stressing it. The second part is a little more difficult, but think of "zoo" with a "d" in front of it. So actually you can think of the whole word as "made zoo", but don't overdo the d.

The meaning of the word is not obvious to a Dane like me, but it roughly translates to "cool people".
