Some albums play and some freeze the player everytime

I'm using an M6 with the most recent firmware. I rip and encode in ogg level 9. All songs and albums are ripped and encoded with the same software (K3b) using oggenc. I load the player by copying the album folder to the music folder in the player.

For some reason some albums play perfectly well every time and some simply freeze the player - also every time. In one case I re-ripped and encoded the CD into Mp3 with almost no info in the ID3 tag fields and it played. Unfortunately I bought this player for ogg support. I can't find any specific problems with the files or tags. Upon re-ripping and re-encoding there is the same problem. CDs used are nothing special - some old, some new.

I'm stumped and the player is only marginally useful at this point. Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated. thanks

Hello and Welcome to Meizu Me. I think your firmware might be corrupted. Try re-installing the firmware (These instructions are for the SP player version. If yours is TP or SL, once you go to the link, click the download tab and after the page loads, look for your player'supdate files). To do this, you go to this website
http://en.meizu.com/down_x.asp?MZ_ID=133&Type=2 (this is MEIZU's website and the server is in China so it will take a while to download) and download the file. Remember to always down load the Sxxxx.x version of the firmware, not the Txxxx.x version. Downloading the T firmware will mess your player up. After the file has downloaded you have to install WinRAR. You can find WinRAR at Cnet.com's download tab for free. Once WinRAR is downloaded, you have to right click on the file that you downloaded from MEIZU's website and click on extract here. Then you should see two unzipped files (M6.ebn and Resource.bin). You then plug your player to the computer and drag both the files into your Player. Unplug your player and shut it off. Then turn it on again. It should say updating or something like that. If the screen says no resource don't worry, just plug the player back into the player and re-drag the resource.bin into the player. Unplug it again and restart the player. It should be upgraded now. If this doesn't work, try encoding the Ogg files with a bitrate between 128 and 256.

Okay, I re-installed the firmware and then re-encoded one of the problem albums at 256, still in Ogg. Now it powers up to the first song on that album and freezes instantly. I'm really running out of reasons not to simply toss this player. I've been trying to make this work or about two months off and on and it's incredibly frustrating.

Update. The player does fine with mp3 files encoded at 320. So one less reason to toss the player. what's up with the ogg files? All mp3 files seem to play perfectly well. Ogg seems to vary unpredictably from CD to CD. although if it doesn't work it seems to be consistent regardless of bitrate.

never happened to me with lower bitrate oggs. Everything plays fine at 128 or lower. I wonder why you are encoding your music at such high bitrates ? Have you ever made an ABX test ? I can't pass this test even at ogg/160 !
And if I ever wanted an 1:1 version, I'd pick FLAC rather than ogg.

mbarry and BobbyQ I appreciate the assistance. I've never done an ABX test and really don't pretend to have a very sophisticated ear. However, on some of the stuff I listen to I can definitely hear the difference between 128 and 320. I suspect you're right though in that I probably couldn't hear much difference between 320 and some point higher than 128. On the problem CDs so far I have had no success at anything between 128 and 320 with ogg. Mp3 seems to do fine at either bitrate. Unfortunately I bought this player for ogg compatibility.

Update. the only difference I could find in the various ogg files was the description field. At least one set had an extensive description field. I deleted that field using Kid3 and now it plays fine at 320. This may solve the problem but any idea what is going on with that?
