Is the file limit problem common? thinking of 4gb or 8gb M3

    Hi all,

Im thinking of getting an M3 (not much of a video user). Had almost bought the 8gb version when I saw people having problem having more than 1700-2000 files. Is this problem common to all M3 players?

It doesnt make much sense to pay more and get 8gb player if you cant use the space. So I think the 4gb version would be better for now if this a common bug in M6/M3s.

    Thanks in advance

to be honest bud, i've never had a problem with the limit on files. even when my 8gb m3 has been crammed with albums ripped at lower rates i've always had ample file space left. enjoy the player- it is a gem

Thanks a lot. Anyways Ive already pulled the trigger on 4gb. Its my first mp3 player and Im hoping M3 will be a very good buy regardless of 4 or 8gb . If I really like it, will pass this on and get 8gb.

My 8 GB M3's got 1400 songs and 1.5 GB remaining. You mileage may vary. Be that as it may you're better off with the 8 GB.

sorry guys but i doubt his qn is answered

i know what you mean and from my experience, the max my m6 can see is 2048 songs, which means if i put 3k songs in my m6, 900+ songs will not be played

and seriously i can cram 2048 songs in 4-5GB if i encode it in wma 64...
so yea there is a file limit in my 8gb m6
it may be smaller in your 4gb m6 but who knows? you can try and report your findings here

I have always the bug of the limited number of files on my M3 8Gb, even with the last firmware. I'm not alone to have this problem!!

Some guys say that this problem will never be corrected, because it's a hardware problem. H&B with one of their DVD player had the same bug which has never been corrected.

So, until Meizu has corrected this bug of limited files by a next firmware (if it's possible!!!), I advice you to wait before buying M3 8Gb!
New firmware 2.004.5 : Meizu M3 (8Gb) always limited to 1792 played files...

Thanks zeda and sas-seb for the replies. As I have posted earlier, I bought the 4gb version. Since its my first mp3 player, im not exactly sure what my requirements are. But felt that 4gb would be better, knowing the fact that M3 has such issue.

I will use the 4gb version for few months and also check what kind of encoding would be good. Based on that I will either get the 8gb version or try iAudio7 8gb (Though i7 is bulky when compared to M3). One of my main requirement is ogg support and the player should be easily usable with Linux.

You have done a good choice in the way that M3 has good quality sound (not perfection but very good) with powerful bass.

I can advice you 'WMA 64Kbps VBR' encoding with JetAudio Basic ( COWON America ). WMA Lossless is very good too and easy/speedy to encode.

About the problem of the limited files, I have read in this forum that Meizu is working on that... Wait for a next firmware...
