You would need to open the player and desolder the current battery connection wires and resolder a new battery into it's place.
The problem you will have though is finding a replacement battery of decent capacity that will fit. The M6 battery is not a standard size and I would guess that Meizu have them specially made for their players.
Unfortunately you can not buy batteries from Meizu for self installation you need to send the player back to them for replacement.

Thanked 0 Times in 0 PostsI kinda figured that. If the battery lasts 2 years or more, it will probably be cheaper to just replace the whole player.

Thanked 0 Times in 0 PostsIt the battery dimensions were known, it would not be difficult to build a battery pack using off the shelf rechargeable batteries. It takes a little time and research to find a combination that works, but I've done this with several rechargeable devices. Worked like a charm!

Thanked 0 Times in 0 PostsNokia phone battery as replacement!
I opened up my M6 and measured.
The battery is 43x43 mm, the thickness I couldn't measure since the battery is stuck to something (the display?), and I only have a big plastic ruler to measure with. However, I estimate it to be around 4-5 mm.
One battery option would be to use the Nokia BL-5X, used in Nokia 8800. It is replacable and can be bought separately for around $25 (probably less at the right place).
The Nokia BL-5X battery measures 33 x 37,5 x 5,3mm and might be possible to fit into the Meizu M6. The battery specifications are 3,7 Volt / 700mAh / Li-Ion - Same as for the original Meizu battery!
The big question (aside from if it would fit) is if the charging would still work if you replace the original battery with this one. Anyone with further battery knowledge/experience that could answer that question?

Thanked 0 Times in 0 PostsThat is very helpful. Thank you. The fact that it is the same voltage & amps is great. As long as the 5.3mm (5,3)
isn't to deep, it should work. It may not last as long but should be 10+ hrs anyway.
The next thing is for somebody to see what it takes to get the battery out. I am not ready to try that with mine yet. Some pictures of the inside would be nice also.Last edited by brad1138; 10-30-2007 at 11:35 PM.

Thanked 0 Times in 0 PostsThe stated Amp-Hours (milli-amp-hour) is the battery's capacity, not the output current. I'm not saying the Nokia battery won't work, just a word of caution.
Someone did take the M6SP apart and had the pictures posted on the Chinese Meizu site.

Thanked 0 Times in 0 PostsI realize that, the reason I think the BL-5X won't last as long is that it is physically smaller. Thanks for the pix link. Now if I could only read Chinese.
I Googled pictures of the BL-5X, Unfortunately it has a plastic case meaning the actual battery is even smaller than the dimensions FrankBlack mentioned, meaning most likely even lower mAh relative to the M6 battery.
Also the M6 battery pix look smaller than 5.3mm thickness, I would guess 3mm or so. Maybe the plastic case could be taken off the BL-5X?

Thanked 0 Times in 0 PostsI read it on the Chinese Meizu forum that Meizu does offer the service to replace the batteries in the M6. The cost is 30 RMB (Chinese dollars, the current exchange rate is about 7.5 for $1 US) for the battery and 10 RMB handling fee, in addition to the 20 RMB shipping charge back to the sender. So the total comes to 60 RMB, which is quite reasonable. The problem is that I don't think they offer this service outside China.

Thanked 0 Times in 0 PostsI've not done it with the M6, as I've only owned one for about 3 months. The need has not arisen for me yet for this device. I did however build a battery pack from LI watch sized batteries for my Sharp Zaurus 5500. Held together with nothing more that black tape and solder straps. No, I cannot remember the battery numbers I used, and I've since purchased a replacement battery for my Zaurus.
However, have you ever cut one of these batteries apart (be careful, I seen lots of blood doing this)? I have NOT cut to pieces a M6 battery yet, no need presently, but these battery cases generally consist of standard sized batteries in a cluster. Sure, they don't look normal, with their yellow or red casings, but the size is generally consistent with off the shelf batteries. Just find the right voltages/amperes, and solder/tape them together. Works like a charm!
Sometimes it is difficult to identify the battery type used. It is not usually marked, and sizing by eye can be tricky. Take a cell with you to "Battery World". Find the size, it's easy to figure out the amperes and voltages by simply dividing the amount of cells found, to the output of individual cells. Most LI batteries ARE rechargeable, whether they tell that you or not. Maybe not a often as a standard LI BatPak, but they are....believe me.
We used to do this technique with Ni-Cad video camera batteries (the broadcast type) years ago. We would either wrap them with tape, or use the original containers and fit new batteries into them, wrapping the containers in tape (thin layer so they still fit).

Thanked 0 Times in 0 PostsSo does anyone know exactly how thick the original battery is, and how much space is available heightwise once it has been removed. There might be an extra millimeter or so of air as well, giving room for the Nokia BL-5X battery.
If someone could remove the battery, try to place something that is 5.3 mm thick there and see if it closes, we would have an answer as to whether this would work. It would be great if it did, as it would mean a cheap, easy-to-get alternative battery.

I just bought for £2.99 with free shipping the bl-5x 1000mah extended battery for the nokia 8800 on amazon.co.uk, and it is as inexpensive on the amazon.com site as well; I will have the battery in a couple of days from now, then I will attempt the swap, I suppose it only requires a minimum tweaking and soldering, and making sure of the polarities.
my m6 sl player just kept going well for a couple of years I think, then I dropped it in water a month or so ago, and then drama; it had to stay on a radiator heater for at least a couple of days before recovering all functionalities, the touch-pad is particularly sensitive; now it's all back to normal but, might be a coincidence, after the accidental bath, the battery wouldn't last more than a few hours; this player is flawless and sounds divine, it deserves all the battery replacement for as long as it keeps on workingLast edited by thematrixexpert; 01-12-2010 at 02:09 PM. Maybe the battery is still being shorted out somewhat. And jeep in mind, if you do not care about the physical size, you can tack on a huge 1G iPod battery to give you insane amounts of playtimes.
If you are having trouble with your player, please visit this thread first and try the steps before you panic. Most likely you will be able to fix your player easily using the steps listed.
Players: Meizu M6 SP 4GB, iPod Touch 4G
Headphones: SoundMAGIC PL-50s, Auvio In-Ear Armatures, Bose QC-15s.

Good luck with your work on that battery replacement
Did you try to solder your new battery? Did it work? Did it fit inside correctly??
Mine and my friends' batteries ran out as yours. They only work for few ours.
We were searching for a battery replacement but couldnt find any guide to do that
We couldnt even open the player
By the way how did you open it up??? Used any kind of special tool?

major blunder: the bl-5x 1000mah is utterly thick, and I should have figured out the m6 sl is thinner than the ms sp xD now I have this battery which I will have to give to a girl (quite a hottie) I am sharing the house with that has a nokia 8800.
looking for a battery replacement taken from mobile phones is a major problem though: the way the recharging takes place is by being supplied up to three different voltages from the mobile unit itself, so only lithium ion batteries like the nokia 8800 where there is one voltage output are suitable in order to avoid complications; at one of the outlets of maplin dot co dot uk they allowed me to test the iPod153 Mini Replacement Battery and it is slightly thick and won't allow the case to snap fully in position; their Replacement Video iPod153 Battery instead fits in the meizu m6 sl with space to spare, I don't remember if you can almost fit two in them, but one with at 550mh and 3.7 is match to the original and can provide the 24hr+ operation of the m6 sl again, maybe with a little blue0white tack one can make a snug fits if concerned.
@naturelmania - yes, eventually soldering will be involved; with all the trials, I had to replace the original multistrand cables; so I had to remove the plastic wrapping/isolation around the battery's charge regulator circuit and replace the wires; I found the thin, solid cables of telephone wire easy to work with, and they are easy to solder indeed, this reducing the time the m6 sl board is exposed to high temperatures, and ideally would be best to use solder containing silver in order to lower melting temperatures.
@naturelmania - to open the m6 sl I recommend a minimum of three of those flat precision screwdrivers; the first time you open it is rather arduous, since all the numerous pins clasping the metal case onto the top half excercise quite a pressure; to break/bend the least amount possible of those pins, since some might remain gripped or hooked onto the top plastic half, I recommend a slow and gradual first attempt at opening the unit, for which five or more of those tiny flat precision screwdrivers are recommended:
- watching the m6 sl from the top, start inserting the screwdrivers underneath the bottom part of the gray right side where the headphone plug and the mini usb port are, stucking the screwdrivers in between the metal case and the gray right side pulling it slightly up
- as you gain some space, put other screwdrivers in between both top and bottom sides close to the gray plastic one of the m6 sl gaining more and more space in a parallel manner in between the top half and the metal case
- keep increasing the height of the gray side panel and accordingly keep in place the resulting space space gained along the top and bottom sides
- if you keep going in a parallel manner, eventually the bottom metal panel will come off with minimal or no damage to the plastic bits
- once open, fully inspect the metal pins are in a proper state, and straighten the bent ones if any, and observer how they keep the metal case grasped onto the upper part of the m6 sl, so next time you open it, you are aware of problems if any might come up
