    Warning! WMV with DRM protection

    Hello all,

    I nearly had to throw my Meizu away today. I bought and downloaded a track from Virgin's online store, and it was a WMA, so I put it in my M6.

    As soon as I pressed play, the M6 froze, would not respond to anything. Eventually after much prolonged button pusing, the screen went black. And I tried all sorts of combos, the power alone, power and menu, power and bottom arrow etc etc, each time holding them in for about 30 seconds... NOTHING helped.

    Eventually I gave up. A couple of hours later I tried again, but this time I also pressed the power button on top of the miniplayer many times, very quickly, and then tried the power... FLASH! Yessss, back in action, but that is the last time I play a file like that. I tried that file in my laptop, and it immediately caused my computer to go online to verify the file. I wonder if thats what caused the M6 to crash, that it did not know what to do with the command which came from the file being opened.

    Anybody know much about this, and if we will be able to play these files properly in future?

    Thanks,
    mark.

    The M6 doesn't support DRM protected music (at the moment), so that's the problem...

    Apparently, this is what is taking them so long to create firmware V1.010.
    Can't wait to play with the Meizu MX!

    The M6 doesn't support any form of DRM. Use ripped CD's or purchase music from an online store that doesn't DRM its tunes.

    Or take a program that can play them, and cheat by using an audio editor that can record audio out from the PC (for example, Audacity), then record it playing and make your own unprotected copy. You bought the music, so they have no right to say weather you can play it in your mp3 player or not, because it's your own personal use.

    DRM is just another thing big companies are trying to come out with to try to tell you, the consumer, what you can and can't do with the things you buy. Many places are trying to get DRM outlawed because it's going to start forcing you to install programs that monitor your PC usage constantly, and send the info back to them, completely destroying your privacy. If you don't install the programs, then it won't let you use the DRM files.

    There is a program that removes the DRM of wma songs. Given that you purchased your music and you should be able to remove the DRM...

    soundtaxi is a program that does that.. look into it. its a "FairUse" software.

    WTF ?
    My M6 is supporting them ..
    i buy tracks at musicload.de ....
    BUT you need to transfer using MediaPlayer so that your licence for that file is installed on the m6 ...

    <EDIT>
    Sorry, what are you actually talking about ?
    In Topic it says WMV, but in post you say WMA
    So which one of them is causing you trouble ??
    </EDIT>

    Why just don't use a torrent site to download the music or a filesharing program(stay away from kazaa and limewire) like DC++, Ares, Soulseek or eMule? The songs are DRM-sh!t free. And they are free too. I mean, the artists doesn't get cash when you buy their tunes. Use the cash to see them live insteed.

    burn an audio CD if possible
    rip it to mp3 (for example Windows Media Player 10 and 11, in options chose mp3 and then rip the CD)
