Switched to Mac, All songs deleted O_o

So I just bought an 8gb M6 a week ago. At home, I use winxp to upload files. I go to the computer lab at school, hook it up to a mac workstation cuz I had some files to copy over and everything on my player is wiped clean. I come home to see that 8 gigs are free and I have no songs, pics or videos left. What's going on? Has anyone experienced this as well??

My guess would be that you've used a special FAT32 file system on your player that windows and the player recognized, but MAC didn't handle well... (This is just a plain guess ^^) But never seen such a thing really.

It happened to me as well. Luckily, I still had copies on my PC.

I think there's something else going on there; I use an iBook running OS 9.2.2 at home and a PC running Windows XP Pro at work and have no problems accessing the files from either machine.

Macs (generally) will tell you that the disc isn't readable and ask if you'd like to format it or eject it without modification - it won't decide it doesn't like the format and just wipe the disc on it's own.

The only twist to using the m6 on both platforms is that Mac OS 9.2.2 has a 32 character limit on file names (including the file extension, like ".mp3"), so really long file names are truncated. The tags and song info is untouched by the actual file name is modified.

The firmware is still there. Just the songs/vid/pics are gone. The Macs we have at school are the latest OS 10.xx whatever it is because we do a lot of 3D rendering and video post. They are 8 core I believe.

All I did was plug in the usb connected to the M6 into the Mac and it was instantly wiped of everything but firmware.

I think this might be a firmware problem?

Hmmm...well, I guess it could have something to do with using OSX, but I've no idea (I'm not brave enough to upgrade yet).

    I have this problem too.

Sometimes I plug in my player into my Powerbook, but the Powerbook doesn't show that it's connected.

So I have no way of properly removing the drive.

I think just pulling out the plug without properly dismounting the drive is what wipes all the songs off.

    Might be a firmware issue...

    I'm running Mac OS X 13.3.9.

Did someone try an unmount via console?
"Und schon wieder einer mehr", sprach der HiFiGott, "der mit Musik aus der Konserve nie wieder richtig gluecklich sein wird!", und ritzte eine weitere Kerbe in sein Boxenkabel.
