Black screen, but still 'on'

Today when listening to some music on my meizu in the bus, I wanted to power off my player. So as usual I held the On/Off button till the status bar appears telling me it's powering down.

Yet this time nothing happened. No buttons responded, no sound etc etc.
SO while trying to get it to respond my screen went black, but my custom background is still visible, all be it very very dark.

Now to fix this I've been looking in 20+ threads on 4 different sites. All recommending to either use DFU tools or to use a On/Off + other button combination. As far as I have noticed no response at all from my player.

When I use DFU tools:

A: No matter how long I hold On/Off + M for while connecting it to USB, Windows Vista will NOT recognize it as a DFU server. Just a normal ' would you like to open this or play in media player '. I assumed this was OK, so I proceeded to start DFU tools, no response from DFU, no 'download ' button nothing. And yes I have had 3 versions of SP FW in it.

B: I tried doing it the old fashioned way and just drag the FW files into my meizu via windows. That failed too as I get the ' windows can't connect to this device, or the connection has been broken ' error.

As far as I have tested I get totally NO response from my meizu all I can see is some faint background. Can't turn it off / on whatever. It almost seems as if the contrast is on 0 and the back light refuses to work + buttons won't respond.

If anyone has any idea's or any similar problems feel free to inform me. Thanks in advance.

hm...have you just tried the reset?
just hold "enter" button for ages, see if it does anything
that's how i solve most of my problems...

This has been covered a few times in the forum. Forget the DFU Tool if you can see your background then the player is still on but frozen. Hold down the enter button at the bottom of the touch strip for up to 60 seconds until the player resets it should then power on as usual.

For others reading this thread the DFU Tool should only be used as a last resort. Incorrect use of the DFU Tool can cause furthur problems that will require your player to be returned to Meizu for recovery.
The DFU Tool will not work if the player is in a power on state, you can only put your player into DFU mode if it is powered off the same applies to a hard reset and player format reset. These are all boot up processes, if your player is on but not responding the above soft reset is your only available course of action if that does not work then you need to wait till your battery runs down and the player shutsdown on it's own.

As I've said before I tried everything. Even held the On/Off down for almost 5 minutes .. nothing.

And to madman, I can see my BG sort of. It's more like the screen didn't reset when it turned off. Or it's very very badly lighted.

I guess I'll wait for it to power off, but it has a full battery so probably will take several days - -!!

The On/Off button will do nothing with a frozen player, just keep trying the soft reset by holding down the enter button.

Oh my. My mistake after all sorry madman.

I assumed On/Off was Enter button. After keeping the ' enter ' button pressed for 30+ seconds my screen flashed .. a glimmer of hope.

White screen, so I turned it off and now it's back to it's usual safe.
Many thanks,

Yeah, same thing happened to me. I think there's a problem with the video I just uploaded my M6 with that cause it to shut down. So, I just had to delete the damn video to prevent this to happen again.

This happens quite often...

This issue has really started to annoy me.

It happens about 3 times a week. I am not playing any video when it happens just listening to shuffled music and bam! it freezes on me. I haven't found any rhyme or reason as to what is triggering it other than maybe the random function is buggy.

If the player is freezing with music files it may be that some of the id3 tags are corrupt or audio files contain errors.

It freezes also when using very long lists of files (eg. playlists with some complete folders added). Well it does not freeze but it acts veeeeeery sssslooooow, so it seems like frozen. Doing a reset works perfect for me always.

ok, i tried the soft reset, i tried the dfu (correctly) i tried to charge it (for 4 hours) i tried to push all buttons simultaneously for 5 minutes, and still, if it turn it "on" the screen lightens up a LITTLE bit, nearly not possible to see and does the klicking sounds. that's all...
