File Limit of 2046

I emailed MEIZU and asked them if they had any intentions of fixing the file limit of 2046. Here is the reply I received.
"there is a limitation of 2046 files on M6 due to the Samsung solution. We will try to improve it when available later."

Could some one explain what is the Samsung solution and what does it mean
We will try to improve it when available later."

9/13/07 - I Just received another reply from MEIZU and they do intend on fixing this problem with a future firmware update.

that is a somewhat disappointing reply, and doesn't sound plausible to me, more of a blind excuse.

Maybe they are referencing Samsung SA58700X07 - ARM9 processor.

My guess is that the problem lies in the way the ARM chip handles file names. I would guess that it stores each file in the directory with a unique number (either 12 bit signed or 11 bit unsigned) giving a maximum number of files (including the '.' and '..' directory links) of 2048. If that is the case then it should be trivial to fix!

At first, I thought they were talking about the samsung chips, but they can store as much data as the can hold, no matter the number of files.

Also, audiofish, could you explain more please? Trivial how?

I am not a developer for ARM processors, but I am pretty much sure that it does not handle file names at all - that is a task of the operating system and is independant from the processor. Maybe Meizu uses a crippled OS that can't handle more than 2^11 files. That is more likely, and would contradict to the declaration of Mr. Wong above. That's why I call it a blind excuse.
