I'm going through the entire forum before I really decide on my order for the Meizu but it seems like there's a lot of problem with it from all the posts. Sorry if the question has been asked, but if you buy a new M6 do you still need to do the firmware thing? What is that anyways? When do you need to upgrade that? I couldn't find it in the FAQ, can someone show me where I can read up on that?

You don't have to upgrade the firmware if you don't wish to, but I love the stuff it added, you can look through the version history to find what was updated. Album art being one of my favorites.

As far as problems with it, I have only had mine about a month but it works great. Every product has people who have problems with it, and they tend to be more vocal than those with no issues. So just remember a forum is where ppl go to find answers and fixes but taken as a whole I'd say its a fairly normal percentage of problems compared to other quality problems. Some may disagree, but I am very satisfied with my purchase.

People will only experience problems if they don't follow the steps correctly. I have never had problems before. Had mine for nearly nearly 1.5 years.

same here, I experience the same bugs of course, but I don't have any major problems at all. I like my M6.

The M6 is a great player, and I have never experienced any bugs at all. You should definitly buy one. The people who have problems tend to install the firmware wrong, or mis-treat their player. As long as you take good care of it, and don't install the wrong firmware, the Meizu will give you more than 3 years of good service.

i'd like to propose to make this one here sticky. there are many ppl out there, that beginn to think that the meizu has a lot of problems after reading around a litte in this forum. i think it would be a wise decission to show, that the meizu is indeed a reliable and good player.

I am sure your conidering other products that would be similar so I am going to compare the M6 to the Video Ipod. Its the main competition for the M6.

I believe the Ipod is too but these are generally for two different people. The Ipod is more money but its easier to use. You can't drag and drop song and your very limited on the programs to use for songs. Its designed to be simple and not as functional nor the options.

The M6 is much smaller in the trade off of storage capacity. However the video battery life is a little better then an Ipod Video (Keep in mind that the Ipod Video 80GB costs about 3x the price as the M6). It is drag and drop for most song formats so if you go to a friends house and want some of their music, you could just plug it in. Ipods can't just do that and nor are they easy to do if one wants to.

One of the biggest selling factors for the M6 is price, while the Ipod its the ease of use. I still think that the M6 is easy to use but it has a little more of a learning curve. This website reduces that learning curve a lot because any problems you may have, someone else probably has had already and there is a solution to it.

There is also the iRiver Clix. However, to me there isnt' even really competition. Its bigger then the M6, more expensive with less accesories, and the max storage is 4GB at the moment.

You also have to keep in mind that the larger capacity PMPs are hard drive based while the less than 8 gig players are flash based!! Hard drives can fail due to having a lot of little moving parts. Flash players have nearly no internal moving parts except for some buttons, which will make them more reliable. So when doing a comparison, you have to compare flash to flash based PMPs and hard drive to hard drive based PMPs. With that being said, the M6 hands down smokes the competition!.....IMO.

One flaw I see with the Meizu M6 is that the consumer is unable to replace the battery. When cared for properly, the M6 would last for many years, but the battery limits it's life. I suppose you could ship it off to China for a battery replacement, but you might as well just buy another M6 or just upgrade to something better.

the m6 is a great player but it has down sites
like shaky body, and when i press on my m6 i hear a weird sound.
also the rrw button does not work good.(on my m6 that is)
all in all its a great player but not the best
