FOr Bluetooth you need some hardware... so it can't be done with just a new firmware...

What would you use bluetooth for on an mp3 player other than transferring songs? It'd be cool to transfer from phone to player and vice versa, but its totally unnecessary imo.

Not to mention an extra drain on the battery life.
I thought I was wrong once but I was mistaken.

bluetooth would be a nice feature for MP3 players - but only if a critical mass of players would be using this. you could exchange a few songs/albums with friends in short time.
i don't think, that the power consumption would be this big, as you could implement an "activate for 10 minutes" function.

but as long, as all that ppl care about is the price and the shinyness of the display no manufactor is going to spend extra money on integrating BT...

I hope meizu does not put bluetooth in new models, because I don't want it so I don't want to pay for it. maybe they could just make certain models with it so it would be optional that would be cool

Wireless technology would be great. I love the idea of wireless head/earphones.

It should be possible to make a new standard for wireless sound (with encryption) that uses less power than bluetooth.
For my portable player, I would not need more than a two meter range.
