i agree... the battery life is up to 20 hours if i am correct.. ofcourse this is the 20 hours under unrealistic conditions like medium sound levels, no skipping or fastforwarding files, short backlight etc
20 hours might seem overkill but - for example- personally i am someone who fiddles around with the screen all the time and changes songs often... this drains the battery.
my Ipod Video hardly lasted a 3 hour trip because of that and the poor battery life for video(a poor 2,5 hours if youre lucky) and me playing around with it all the time...
The M6 is small, has the same screensize as the ipod video, weights a fraction of it and has better sound and much better battery life
I charge mine about once per 1,5 weeks as I use it mainly in the gym..
conclusion... meizu m6 is a great player! and conclusion nr 2... I was an indiot for ever buying an Ipod Video... although i must say the controls of the Ipod are slightely better than the meizus, the scrollwheel is great... the rest of the ipod doesnt even come close to the quality meizu offers....and... no need for that moronic Itunes!
anyway...getting off topic here...
later!

agree: backup your files when changing firmware (upgrading to newer fw or downgrading to older fw)
not totally agree: backup your files when changing skins (you're just changing the resource bin so it should have no effect on the fw itself, nor the file structures. of course, if you really, really want to ensure that you don't lose any data, then by all means, backup. :D

i disagree
the battery life does not last 20 hours. in fact, i reckon the battery life lasts somewhere around 11 to 12 hours.
that is really bad news. is it just my meizu or everyones?
i guess it also depends on what u use it for. videos of course takes up a lot, but i tried just plain music and it lasted for 12 hours. the volume was set constant at 13. does the equalizers and the different skins take up more battery?

i know that changing the eq settings does have an effect on battery life. why don't you try your battery drain test again using flat eq? no bass or treble boost and any other sound effects off. maybe i'll try this myself.
also, i believe the bitrate of the files and even the format of your music files can affect the battery life as well. wma uses up more battery than mp3, although i'm not sure why. higher bitrates also use more battery.

The screen and backlight is also an important factor, and requires lots of battery. I have backlight set at 40%.

@iversonjack
I siad the battery lasts up to 20 hours. Not that is lasts 20 hours always.
as mentioned it totally depends on teh settings you use
I am sure no one gets the 20 hours from it as its based on the most minimal settings which are not great for normal useimo...
but the manufacturers base their battery tests on these minimalistic settings.
They all do that as far as i know
the 16 hour indication for teh battry of the Ipod Video is bull too...I never managed to get more then 6 to 8 hours from it cause i like my display bright and play around with teh screen a lot...
even considering thatthe 20 hours might be an unrealistic number the meizu still gives you a lot of juice..
Peronally i have my backlight and brightness set to 95%
I use the classical Eq with some adjustments
and i use the Fhase Corrector at setting 3
no other sound enhancements i believe
that, together with a pair of Shure earphones gives me a nice sound a long battery life(easely 14 hours with the exception of when i play video ofcourse)

btw...i have read somewhere thet the "WMA uses more power then mp3"is a myth...
presumably this was based on DRM protected WMA. The artile stated all DRM protected files use slightely more power due to having to read the DRM data and stuff
dont know if any of the above is actually true though
higher bitrates logically do use more power as the player simply has to process more info at the same time thus making it work harder and consume more power

yeah i know that it never reaches 20 hours.
but i reckon my settings are pretty normal but i seem to be quite little playing time in return.
my backlight is set to 50 for music... and i usually only use my mp3 for music function.
eq setting is custom, with only the first 2 and the last 2 bars raised, and has virtual 3D on.
earphone is sony mdr-ex71sl

With Spatializer and custom EQ the battery would pretty much halve.

My backlight is set to 15 in winter and it's quite enaugh to navigate through. Even with Spatializer and watching some short videos my battery-life is about 14-15 hours.

You probably want to have the backlight down pretty far anyway - the gamma on an LCD screen is far higher than real life. I calibrated my LCD monitor again last week and I had to have the brightness at 3%.

I'd like to test my battery. How do you measure it so precisely?

The only sure way to do it is to really write down how long you have used it for at any given time.the song timer does come in handy though.then add all the times up.sounds long winded but easy really.I drive a truck for a living and managed it so someone at a desk job shhould find it easy.Is it a record though?

(sorry, this is already ot but just wanted to comment. )
lol, i think you might be under-estimating the work involved in a desk job. we have phone calls, meetings and other sort of communication to worry about. plus, some offices have policies against listening to music at work. not to mention, deadlines can really take your mind off keeping track of music times.

I'm thinking of upgrading from a Meizu M3 to a M6SL. How big would the difference in the battery time be? Is it worth it?

The battery life of SL boasts to 26 hours. Have not measured it but it is quite long according my experience.

Hmmm. My M3 plays for around 12-14h or something. So it might be worth it. I will have to think about it tho.

With Li-Ion batteries it matters much how old the battery is. If your player is an older model (Error, Iversonjack? ) then it will probably have a decreased battery life.
And yea, whatever uses the CPU more drains the battery more. It can be sound effects and different formats (and the usage doesn't have to depend on the format exactly, more like the decoder software's efficiency)
