Windows Xp doesn't see the player (Usb Device Not Recognized)

All delighted with my new player finally arriving, took ages cause the coerier can't read).

Switched it on and everything works fine, had a quick play with it etc.

1st time connecting it to my laptop, nothing happens so i turn on the player, still nothing except an error message "Usb Device Not Recognized" and thats it

I get the same result using MTP or MSC. I've tried connecting with the supplied USB cable and a different and also tried connecting to a different laptop with the same result.

Is this a common happening? How do i fix it?

As a side note, when i tap the power button the screen flashes for an instant is this normal?

Was the player on or off when you tried to connect it to your PC? If you connect the M6 to the USB port switched off, it will only recharge.

Turn the player on, set it to MSC and try plugging it again.

As for the fast white flash, it's normal.

Let me know how it goes.

Edit: re-read your post and just noticed that it was already on. Sorry.

Can you try connecting it to another PC?? Since it is an UMS device (in MSC mode) you should have no problems...

I've no issue with it in MSC mode. It installed drivers automatically in XP, but just didn't show up as a drive until a reboot. I use WMP11 with it to sync my music without issue as well.
Hard to say what the trouble is, though I know I've had trouble before with some USB devices to install them, but not this one.

Just tried connecting it to my work pc, same problem.
I think it installs the driver and then tells me there was a error, this is on both computers.

You cannot have any music playing while connecting it because the player thinks that you are using an external power source. Make sure that the power is on and that no music is playing. Hope this helps.
If you are having trouble with your player, please visit this thread first and try the steps before you panic. Most likely you will be able to fix your player easily using the steps listed.

No mbarry, it doesn't matter. When you are playing your music and as soon as you plug in your player to the computer, it will stop the music and change to a removable device.

I can't really play any music if there's none on the pleyer (i delete the 2 songs that came with it). How do you stop it playing anyway?

I've seen posts about DFU Tools being used to fix players. I gave it ago but the program doesnt see the player. Nothing happens either when i hold the M button and then the power button.

Is this a case of i'm going to have to send it back? Hope it isn't!

I just tried connecting it to my main pc, same problem as before.

Have to say, nice new introduction to a new company/product. Can't say the same for my iriver, always works and still does.

Has no one at all managed to find a solution to this problem? Is it player or hardware related?

I know sometimes with USB devices I've had to try different things except for the m6, sounds like something unique to your pc. I haven't even looked at the CD but I think it has drivers on it, try loading them first.
Perhaps you are connecting it to a USB 1.1 bus and although it will work with that, maybe wont' for you.

Here's exactly the order I first plugged in. I plugged the cord into the USB port, and then with the M6 on I plugged the smaller plug into the M6. It took a few moments to install proper drivers and it was ready to go. As mentioned previously, it only didn't show up as a drive till I rebooted, but I could use WMP11 right away.

I'm quite sure, i know it is, usb 2 on the pc. It didnt work on my work pc, my laptop or my girlfriends laptop. It doesn't mater which cable i use, i have 3 of which 1 was bought not so long ago for use on my iriver.

Do i need to use media player for music? There are drivers on the cd alright but they are for win98, xp should just recognise it once i plug it in.

I'm begining to think the player might be at faulth. I'm going away for the weekend but might get a chance to plug it in to my parents pc or tha of my brother but tbh i don't think it will work.

I dont think its a hardware problem in this case
I had the same thing once for some weird reason but when i used a diffrent usb kabel it was gone...

if the player functions normally but isnt recognized by the computer teh mistake is most likely in the firmware, not the hardware.. firmware mistakes can almost always be solved

I've tried 4 different cables now and another different pc without luck.

I'm not sure if the player fully functions normal, so far ive only listened to the radio and recorded a bit.

I've no way of fixing the firmware or being able to load a new one on.

hi, i also have this problem. I bought my player in China and used it over there with no problem. I just came back and when i plug it in to my computer over here there is a problem with the USB. First it looks for drivers and then doesnt find any. Im actually not even sure what player i have, on the back it just says SP, but I think its an M6 8gb. Weird huh! Last time i used it im sure i didnt even need to install any drivers so i dont know what the problem is :S

sorry, seems to be a very rare problem...
the player is a regular USB device which should be recognized by any modern PC as storage device...

not sure whether this is a player error or a computer error...
