Player reports 2048 files no matter how many added/deleted, + browser issues
Hi all
First, I'll say that I hate to contribute to the appearance that the M6 is buggy by posting yet another technical complaint thread as my first. To the contrary, I'm incredibly impressed with my 8GB for $130 player, quite remarkable little gadget.
However--I am having a rather odd problem. The symptoms are as follows:
- Regardless of how many times I delete/add new albums, the "all songs" option reports as 2,048 files.
- Strangely, it does (usually) manage to add new artists/albums to the lists--but for whatever reason, the number of songs remains that 2,048.
- Additionally, and probably related, in browser mode, all album subfolders in the last three (in alpha order) genre folders show no files.
- If I attempt to simply "play" (as opposed to "open") those folders, it sends me to the last file on the player, showing 1/1 tracks.
- If I choose "play" for my entire "MUSIC" folder, it finds only 1,614 files (as opposed to the 2,212 that are currently there, or even the 2,048 that tag-based play reports). I'm assuming that's the total number minus the contents of the 3 last genre folders.
- Finally, a few seemingly random album folders (though from amongst the most recently added) will not play, and again take me to the last file on the player, showing 1/1 tracks.
Any ideas why these things could be happening?
Thanks much!

The "2048 problem" is well known. I hope they fix it in the next firmware version (when is it coming out by the way?)
Not sure about the other symptoms.

Ah, thanks Zed. Anyone know if this has been corrected in firmware 2.003.2?
Anyone have any similar browser issues (entire groups of subfolders showing empty and/or sending to wrong file)?

I am having the same problems as the original poster Soundslike is having. I also have the 8gb SP miniplayer Version: S 2.003.1, I have 1.22 gb free. There are songs stored on the player but because of the 2048 file limit it does not display them or play them. What is the point of having an 8 gig player, I think MEIZU needs to address this problem soon or they will have a lot of dissatisfied customers and will have a hard time selling future products. Is this more garbage that has been coming out of China lately?

I really don't get why they can't knock that number up a notch. It's a byte limit barrier, and even old bios chip can have new firmware added that surpasses their designed barriers.
1>2>4>8>16>32>64>128>256>512>1024>2048>4096. I bet someone could still reach that limit via text and pictures... should go higher to 8192, about 1 file per megabyte. If anything, if they'd just set the barrier to 35565, noone would ever have a problem.

I wonder why they set it to 2048 in the first place?

the latest firmware still has this bug.
tha's simply not acceptable, I'm thinking about bringing it back in as "defective", there's no mention in the specs of the device.
If you make an 8GB player, you might expect someone to use all that space right?

Hi everyone,
If it is any consolation on this issue, I did email Meizu and got a response that suggests they know of the issue and are working on it (hopefully).
My message to Meizu:
---------------------
I found this email address from your website. You may want to forward this message to technical support?
There appears to be a major bug in the Meizu 8gb Mini-Player firmware, and I'm hoping can acknowledge it's existance and tell me that someone may attempt to fix it in a future release of the firmware. I currently use the 8 gb mini-player (M6 model, SP version) and am running firmware version "S 2.003.2 ".
The problem is that the player will not recognize more than 2048 songs. While I can place more than that many songs on the player through the USB interface, it will not recognize them. In my experience, a typical user fits about 3000-4000 songs in an 8 gb player, and such a limit will prevent a user from utilizing the player to it's full capacity.
Most annoyingly, the player does not even say that there is a problem!!! I spent about 1 month figuring out this problem, and finally realizing that the unit simply does not recognize more than 2048 songs !!
I contend this is a **major** problem in the 8gb mini-player, and I strongly encourage you to fix it in an upcoming firmware release. This is a well documented issue about the 8 gb unit, and many people are starting to consider twice when purchasing this Meizu 8 gb system. Why should someone purchase an 8 gb player if they'll only be able to use about ~4 gb of the space for MP3s?
see discussions below that document this problem.
Thank you so much. Please let me know if there are plans to fix this problem.
---------- meizu response -------------
Dear (my name deleted),
Thanks for your enquiry.
Yes, that’s really a problem. I will pass your suggestion to the R&D dept. Hope they can fix it in the coming firmware.
Please pay attention to our official website.

Thanks again and best regards,

Maybe there's some hope?
