Dead M6; all attempts to revive failed

    Hi,

I've been scouring this forum for days looking for answers to my problem. I've posted on the official Meizu website but nobody answered me, so hopefuly someone can help here.

I tried to upgrade my SP Miniplayer to the latest version (2.003.2), but like many other people reporting the same problem, got a white screen on the player, after which I couldn't turn it on or off or do anything, and my computer wouldn't recognize it through the USB.

I've tried doing all types of resets to no avail.

I downloaded the DFU tools folder, put M6.EBN and resource.bin into the directory and tried to install them and there was some error. When I tried to run DFU, a message popped up saying "file not found M6.EBN", and anyway, my computer (XP) doesn't even recognize the player as a DFU server.

Then I left it overnight to let the battery run out to see if I could work on it then, which was likely a mistake. The first time I turned it on it said "updating software" and then gave me the same white screen. I tried resetting it again and it didn't work.

Now it's just blank and dead. It doesn't turn on, it won't charge, it's not recognized by my computer. I don't know if it's just a "bad apple" or what. I'm not sure what else to do except to send it to the Meizu company to fix it or replace it, if that's even possible. I bought the unit on eBay but it was sold with a warranty and I have a warranty card (or at least I think that's what it is, seeing as it's in Chinese).

Should sending the player for repair be my last resort? Is there anything else I should do? Does anyone know what the best way to contact the company is?

Sorry this post is so long, but someone help me!
    (My e-mail is klpie0220@hotmail.com)

    Thank you!

Hold down "M" for a very long time (2-3 mins) and try charge it for 5 hours + , If you have any reaction afterwards report back.

Thank you for the suggestion. I followed your instructions, but the player still is dead and won't respond to anything I do.

Is there anything else I should try?

    Thank you

wel, reset the player, with holding the enter button for 15 seconds, than press the M button and the on/play button at the same time. You must hold these buttons pressed. Than connect it with the usb cable, and your pc will search for it. DON"T RELEASE THE M AND PLAY BUTTON.

Thanks for your help. I tried that and my computer recognized the player as a DFU device. So then I tried to run DFU tools following the instructions in this thread DFU Tools, and kept the M and on/off buttons pressed the whole while. When when I clicked "download" the first time, everything froze up. So then I disconnected the player and tried again, and my comp. would no longer run the installation wizard.

Then I tried on another computer, got the DFU server window, except it I don't think it looked like it was supposed to (there was no M6.EBN, even though I have it in the DFU tools folder). So I clicked download anyway, it went to 100% and the status said it was done.

But my player still doesn't work when I try to turn it on. I tried starting over but the other computer doesn't recognize the player anymore either. What am I doing wrong?

HEY!!!!! I got it to work! :D

I ran the DFU tools again and after that it still gave me the white screen (but at least it turned on), so then I got really frustrated and started resetting it and plugging it in and unplugging it and pushing buttons and suddenly it started charging! And it even has the new firmware version on it. Hurrah! Thanks for the help!

Hey, what firmware did you use?

Also, when you said it started charging, what exactly happened? Did you have it plugged into the computer or an outlet? Did you hold down the menu and power buttons if you plugged it into the computer?

What button combinations did you press? How long? Which type of resets did you use?

    Hi,

I used the SP 2.003.2 version. After I ran the DFU tools, I unplugged it and turned it on and got a white screen. Then I reset it (I pushed the enter button for about 20 seconds), and then for some reason it started turning on (showing the white screen) and turning off by itself. Then I did a hard reset (ON/OFF and >> for about 30 seconds) and it turned off.

I turned it on again and the screen was white, so I plugged it into the USB (but I didn't hold the ON/OFF and Menu button, because I didn't want to run the DFU tools again, I was just seeing if plugging it in would make it react differently somehow), the screen was still white, and the player turned off when I unplugged it. So I plugged it in again, thinking it was low on battery, and the battery picture came up on the screen and it said "charging".

Then I left it there for a while, unplugged it, turned it on and it worked.

I'm not sure why it suddenly started working, but if you have a similar problem, and have tried the DFU tools, try both types of resets several times if necessary, and hold the buttons down for a long time. If you have a white screen and you can turn your player off, that's a good sign, because generally it doesn't respond with a white screen. Report back if anything happens.

That's the strange thing though. When I press a the power button, the white screen flashes only for a few seconds. If I let go, I see it flicker for a short period of time. So I don't know if it is actually turning on at that point or not.

Also, I saw your other post about the DFU process. I experienced a similar situation whence the DFU server said "enumerating", but it was allowed to be closed. I waited approximately 5-6 minutes while it was enumerating; after that, my fingers slipped off the on/off and M keys. Nevertheless, the DFU tools recovered my player to the white screen. So perhaps it is sufficient to wait while the server is enumerating, then close, even if the process is not completed, though I'm not completely sure.

So, if you turn it on, the white screen is not constant, it just flashes then goes away? Does the white screen flash once you let go of the button or are you still holding it? Before I ran the DFU tools, when I pressed the on button, I got a brief white flash on the screen as well, and that was it. If you hold the on/off and M buttons and plug it in, does your computer recognize it as a DFU server? Try pressing the enter button for a long time (maybe 30 seconds) and running the DFU tools. If it says enumerating, wait for as long as you can (at least 5 min.), maybe it'll work.

So, now things have gotton weird.

    I downloaded the latest firmware.

When it loads up, the white screen will come and then go off. Then I can't do anything....or so I think. I can use the enter key to reset it. I have gotton DFU tools to send the entire image (both 1 and 2) onto my meizu.

So to better answer your questions and update everyone on everything.

I used the latest firmware (for the TP). It failed the first itme, but I noticed now that if I push the power button, the white screen will come on...for a moment, then turn off. No quick flash of a white screen when I let go of the button anymore.

If I don't hold the Menu button, then once the flash screen goes off, I can't use any other buttons and pushing the power button does nothing. However, if I hold the Enter button for 20 seconds, I guess it resets my player and I can once again hold the power button down for the infamous white screen.

I can still use DFU server with it. I have already downloaded the latest firmware again to my meizu. Still no luck though as i can't seem to get out of this problem. If I charge it via my usb port, nothing.

One more thing. When I hold the Enter key down and it resets, I notice a very quick, white flash, similar to before.

    Hello, guys!

I have a problem with my M6, like previously posted. M6 is dead, PC don't recognize it neither in DFU tools. I don't know how does this happened. I was listening to it, then I normally switch it off. After while I wanted to switch it on, so I pressed power-on button and... nothing happened. I thought it is empty battery, so I plugged it into USB and... nothing happened.

What do you think will help me?

Did you try this : when your miniPlayer is shuted down, press and hold the Power button and the >> both for over 10/15 seconds. That will initialize OS to the original Factory Settings (all data will be deleted in the player).

I tried it. What happens is basically the white screen will flash and then go away. After that, nothing happens it seems unless i hold down the menu button to reset it.

But if the white screen go away it seems that your player shuts off, so why do you need to hold down the menu button ?

Because, when I hold the power button, the white screen will appear for a few seconds. Once done, the player will NOT respond to anything. No video, no screen, no nothing. It won't even respond to me pushing the power button again. My only option is to reset it with the Enter key. THAT then turns it off.

Now, if I hold Power and >> or Power and <<, again, I will see the White screen flash for a few seconds, and then like before, my miniplayer won't respond to anything. I have to again, reset it by holding the Enter button.

Edit: Sorry, I read your question wrong. I made a mistake in my earlier post. i held down the ENTER key to reset my miniplayer-not the menu key. Sorry for the mistake.

I get the thing with My tp version one where I hold the play button down and the screen flashes white just like yours, and when I let go of the play button, you see the "LCD black", which is that flash of what seems to be white for a split second. That's the player turning off as far as I can tell. Let go of the play button and it doesn't stay on, no matter what I do, and I've tried every single thing short of tearing it apart. I can't so anything at all, and I'd sure LOVE to know how yours came back just fine, but mine doesn't do anything at all even with DFU tools COMPLETING, and not getting stuck at enumerating.

Oh, and when I hold down the m button and then hold play, all I get is a pure bright white screen that stays that way until I let go of play again.... then it shuts off. Or, until I unplug it from the usb cable, since it stays on when plugged into that, too.
