To actually transfer a playlist of songs i have in Windows Media player into the M6 and retain the actual placing of songs?

No, the playlist has to be made from the files sorted within the miniplayer.

you mean the placing in the playlist on on the player?

if you make a playlist in Winamp or something(WMP too) too the songs will stay in the same order.

of course as Iversonjacck already states you need to make the playlist(in winammp, WMP or whatever) with files that are actually on your player. Otherwise the play listst wont be able to find the location of the song on the player and so wont work...

so, connect your player, make a playlist you like in WMP from the files on the player, save that playlist to the system folder of the player and you should have a working custom playlist to your disposal on your player
