Windows 98 don't want to recognize my M6

Hi everyone

I would like to use my Meizu in my other computer, an old Compaq notebook running Win98SE. I tried to install the appropriated drivers for the miniCD, but it seems not entirely recognize the Meizu.

In fact, Win recognize the Meizu as a Samsung drive device, but after Win tries to install a "Samsung USB drive" or something like this. Although the required drivers are present, and even after trying to install them, nothing happens. I looked in the "Gestionnaire de périphériques" (sorry, I don't know the name of this menu in English, it's a menu you reach after right-clicking the icon with a computer in the desktop), and I saw that a error occurs because it says the drivers are not installed...

Any person could help me, because I want to use my Meizu as a big storage device for installing programs...

device manager
I don't know for sure how it could be done under Win98SE, but can you add a new hardware and tell Windows not to look automatically for the proper driver but to choose from a list? There you can point to the right driver by yourself.

uh, try this: remove the player from the PC. Deinstall the player in the device manager. Shut down the PC, restart it. Install the drivers. Shut down the PC. Restart it. Connect the player (best: to another USB port than you used last time)

Thanks Hendrik, and thanks also for the translation (which is the liiteral English translation where gestionnaire=manager and périphériques=devices )

And yes, when I saw tha the automatic installation wouldn't worked, I tried the manual installation with any of the 3 files in the CD, I even tried the automatic and manual installation with the "chinese" files (the files you don't have to use normally!) but my M6 still won't run

I will try later your solution, I'll tell you if it works (I hope so...)

I also have not been able to get 98se to work with the miniplayer on 3 different PC, and also have been emailed by other who could not get it to work. I have not seen any evidence or post of anyone getting win98 working on the miniplayer M6.

I ended up installing XP on one of the 98SE PC.

As I said before, my notebook is an old one, a Compaq Armada 266MHz with 96 MB of RAM, you can easily imagine that this machine can't run OSses higher than WIN98 or WIN2000...So installing XP or the new Vista is out of question And I don't want to buy another machine because I haven't neither the money nor the utility for that...

I add that I don't use this notebook daily, I have also a PC more powerful with XP for that

And to finish, yes WIN98 is obsolete, but this OS is very stable compared to XP (even if updates have been stopped);I don't know for other countries, but here in France there are numerous computers (especially in administrations and entreprises) which still runs under 98...

Drop Windows 98 SE

I'm not trying to say anything about your machine or way of being. But pop in Ubuntu into that laptop and forget about everything.

www.ubuntu.com

I'd recommend an alternate installation disk for faster installation on an older laptop.

Thanks XX-C, i already tried with this driver if you found it on the Meizu site, I download it and it doesn't work. But nice to u

@Shookie:funny, because I recently made a complete installation of WIN98, and before I was interested in installing some kind of Linux-Based OS. The matter is I knew that these kind of OSses had a lot of problems especially to install and to make running all the devices who are automatically recognized by the OS made by "the Big M". But maybe these problems are fixed, isn't it?
