hi meizu fans!
since the porting of rockbox makes such a good progress over the last weeks i would like to do something to support or enhance the project. unfortunately i don't have much experience in hardware programming. so an other thought came into my mind, the Commodore64. this was my fist computer and i think it would be very funny to have this one running on my meizu (display size fits very good). i found this as feature request on the rockbox page too, but a more than 1 year ago.
what do you all thinking about this? would anyone else be interested in such a plugin for rockbox?
or did i overlook something and someone else has tried or started such a projekt already? what i've found is the source code of the m6502 emulation (with the opcodes), which would save a lot of work.
cheers

Thanked 0 Times in 0 Postsi think it would be pretty much impossible, even if the processor of the device is fast enough, the controls will be very hard, since the meizu has a touchstrip instead of buttons. (altough it would still be nice to see this work, even if you just want to show off with it)

Hi Jens, maybe you can get some inspiration from our ZXBox plugin:
PluginZXBox < Main < TWiki
I think such ideas are better discussed over at Rockbox Technical Forums - Index since here you only reach 2 rockbox people (me and gevaerts) as opposed to thousands (ok, maybe hundreds
) over there.
btw, rockbox can play .sid (c64 music) files.

roelandb is right, you won't be able to offer keyboard input with just a touchstrip. Even if you could do it somehow with an onscreen-keyboard, that would be a pain.

Well, rockbox has a keyboard anyway and so far it works with every target we've ported rockbox to. I don't think the Meizus will be an exception to this. We'll have to see how it works out.

Thanked 0 Times in 0 Postsof course the keymapping will be a bit tricky. but there will be a space of 40 pixel in height were could be something like a virtual keyboard. we will see

thanks markun, i'll have a look at this zx emu. i'll see if i get something running in the next few days. i've found a good target (ipod video) to test with (and maybe i'll open a thread at rockbox org too to get some input).Last edited by Jensu; 10-06-2008 at 10:06 PM.
