Rockbox Project (M6)

This is a discussion on Rockbox Project (M6) within the Rockbox forums, part of the Community Development category; I'm betting the SL and SP are pretty much alike in terms of firmware....

I'm really hoping that it will be done very soon, within a month from now would be great, if not that, at least before the m8 will be released :-)

i think there is no need to donate us. with this data sheet we can make rockbox eith one week or two weeks. lets just wait when the developer will be back!

First, I doubt we'll see Rockbox working in such a little time. Then, we certainly appreciate donations as they will allow more developers do work and similar things (like for example markun's player was bought with donated money).

Remember that hundreds of people have already spent countless hours to make Rockbox to what it is today, so when the port is made to run on Meizu you get all their work in one go.

To read up on the Rockbox policy for donated money, see this:

What about M3? Will you create rockbox for it? It's very similar to M6. I'm very grateful if you take care of M3.

dude, just chill. the differences between the different models DO exist, yet they aren't of such a great size.
just show a little patience and you will be awarded

@rockbox-hackers: thx a lot for all your work. rockbox rules so much! i hope you have fun doing the meizu-port!

@szarecki: please, don't buy an ipod! it is not only about rockbox and usability. its also about evil and less evil.
standard-usb, open audio formats like ogg, no need for special software..... : these thinks make the meizu-player less evil. (and don't forget the sound quality)

an ipod with rockbox is a good player, i think, but, again: please, don't buy from the devil!

What's evil, and what's not evil? The only reason I don't buy an iPod is because it's expensive.

the evil-apple-ipod-theme is just the same as the micro$oft *nix conflict. just pointless.
evil players lol. they actually bite you, the newest touch can even tear you apart, don't buy it!.

Rockbox rules!!! I've installed it on a friend's H340 3 or 4 years ago... As soon as I bought the Meizu, I've hope rockbox will be ported on it... It's like a dream that's coming true!!! I'm can help you on ARM9 language, but maybe if you need some help coding c or whatever else you need, I might help you (not sure if I quite good to do this but I really would to help making this a reality).

Actually, I look for buying a 1GB meizu in order to help with test and beta version when first ports came...

If you rockbox guys see another way which I could you, let me know !!!

LTourist Thats great! Ofcourse you can help us. Right now we found the data sheet of the CPU. We need to try to run some simple code on the player. If you have questions you can ask them here or on meizume
Thanks
Yes there has been some progress. The data sheet was splited on chapters etc. to make it more user-friendly. Now we need to run some code on meizu. If LTourist or anyone else have some knoladge in programming you can make a simple code and try to run it on meizu.

@wpyh & pals:

yesyes, you are pragmatic technic-guys, its ok.

i admit, for me it is also ideologic. i don't support apples restrictions and proprietäry interfaces. i think consumers should always choose the more open devices.

vcf: I did notice that you obtained the CPU datasheet. But there seems to be no further progress since...

I have to admit that:
1. I lack basic reverse engineering skills
2. I am more interested in developing Rockbox after it runs on M6/M3 (because I'm not familiar with ARM9 development)
3. I am also interested in official firmware modding (mod the official fw)

Regarding your comment on running some simple code on the M6, what do you think is the best starting point? I was thinking, someone can find some exploit on the M6 code, maybe the video or image processing part, and then make it run a hello world application. What do you think? I'm not familiar with those things, so I can't help too much here...

I think no of us can ran this code. its not to simple. it might be a part of rockbox. Markun should do that. But he has sl. So when he will right a code for sp he will give it us to test it.
