Thanks for the plug...and for beating me to the first thread in the new section :P .

That review is about a year old now and my opinion is still pretty much the same. There have been some firmware revisions since (up to v2.014, only available on Meizu's Chinese site), but nothing that's addressed my No. 1 wish: .m3u support.

The E3c -like most of Meizu's older players- is long gone now; almost impossible to find even in China, although buying used is always a possibility through sites like Taobao. The E3 and X3 are the last ones still out there; I guess NOS that Meizu is trying to get rid of...1GB E3's for the equivalent of $45 and 1GB X3's for about $40. Like my E3c, they both use the Philips 012 chip. The E3, though, is a much less attractive design than the 'c' variation, which is really a completely different beast and just a great little package. I consider it an early glimpse of what Meizu was/is capable of doing when they're not just taking styling cues from other manufacturers.

Too bad...I should have picked up one of Meizu's Sigmatel players (like the E5) while they were still around...would have liked to compare the 3500-series chip's much higher S/N ratio.

I liked the comments about meizu being near the sea and in a clean city

It's funny actually, the player discussed in that nice review is the one that made me consider Meizu as a possible candidate for my future player when my 4 year old iPod was starting to show its age.

One of my students in class was eager to show it to me, and I was really quite impressed by the build quality of the thing. Very classy and slick, and miles above the plastic tripe that is commonly made and sold by the Chinese dime-a-dozen MP3 player manufacturers.

I ended up with a miniplayer eventually, and the rest is history.

I still use my e3 daily, it still has one of the best sound quality playbacks out there, easily on par with my m3. Add the sq to to the very small size and the fact that it's powered by 1 AAA battery and you have a winning mp3 player.

After many years of constant use it show's no sign of giving up yet ( even though i did send it back to China once for a new screen, which was my fault that it broke).

Long live the e3
