Yo, village gangstas! Meizu's just too slow, so if you've given up on Jack ever getting that elusive license, grab one of these instead. You'll never know the difference, I promise. See, just like Meizu, they even copied the look of the iPh...err...Nano.

Get yours today and tell 'em Wakin Chau (周华健) sent you. He loves his M8 so much, he's on the box!

Mini/iPhone clone? Does it have a touchscreen? Becuase I never understood the need for number buttons if you have a touchscreen.

When err0r posted news about the Newman M9 & M10, it stayed in the M8 section.

So is your firewall. Comodo has no problem with it.

And more "on topic": how miffed do you think Jack Wong is that Newman was able to put another M8 on the shelves before Meizu...and that they were fast enough to beat out Meizu's trademark applications?

    miniOne M8
only Meizu products in there. More than that, your title deceives people to think that the Meizu M8 is out for sale.

    You were the first reply.

Anyway, delete this thread if you like; just a little too much China for this site.

Newman are known to release player after player, so I don't think it's that surprising to release this poor phone.

Revisiting the old link, one can see that they've removed the M9 and M10. Who knows what will happen with their M8.
Can't wait to play with the Meizu MX!

Struggled through the article via google translate... a question:

I haven't travelled a whole lot of china, just a few major cities regularly. And, mostly i haven't seen people (18-35 year olds) using 'cheap/knock off' or local grown phones... mostly just the big brands (Anycall, etc...) which are rebadged in china.
How big is this market for Meizu? or Newman? (for phones, not media players)
I don't really know what the hype of Meizu or M8 is in the local market... in fact in Shenzhen at the big electronics market area in Hua Qiang Bei both at the vendor/stall level and even upstairs in the offices most people i asked (admittedly not a really big sample) didn't know of meizu or the M8 last year (i was there twice last year in february and July, i don't remember exactly which trip i mentioned it albeit briefly to my associates)
In fact at the shop level i saw more (Chinese) people interested in and buying the iphone. Although, Mp3 players (novelty type items) are probably a different story.

Meizu is obviously focused on the 'home' market, as MP3PAN said in one of the threads, and its obvious... though i would imagine even in the home market people would be a bit over it by now... i haven't really visited the bbs/forums at meizu, so don't know the activity in Chinese there, and this site is frequented majorly by foriegners, right?

Pan could give you more precise statistics, but for now let's use "enormous" to describe the volume of daily activity on Meizu's Chinese-language BBS.

Meizu is obviously focused on the 'home' market, as MP3PAN said in one of the threads, and its obvious... though i would imagine even in the home market people would be a bit over it by now
This is indeed the million-dollar question: Will the hype translate into big sales...or at least big enough sales to keep Meizu humming along? Considering the size of the mobile market in China (what, +600 million subscriptions?), the answer is probably "yes". Will it be a runaway smash? Probably not, but Meizu's target demographic and rabid fan base are big enough to make it a solid seller. Add in the halo effect of "China's own iPhone" and you get more sales. Add in the curiosity factor, you get more...etc. etc.

On your other observations, it's true that in one of the few reverse-success stories of China trade, Chinese phone makers have been marginalized in their own market. To that end, it's what makes the M8 such an interesting story: a homegrown, powerhouse device brimming with name-brand technology...and still priced below anything else in its class.

Finally, Newman is garbage and anyone in China who pays attention to this kind of stuff would agree. For such a large company, they act like a no-name "village gangster" mill somewhere in the Pearl River Delta. That was part of the humor in my post...although I've learned only I share my sense of humor.

BTW, "village gangster" is the coolest version of 山寨 I've yet seen...hilarious.
