Finally got my hands on the Samsung i900

So my friend got the i900 and I got to have a mess around with it. I really saw this phone as one of the main competitors to the M8. However I was a bit dissapointed with the results.

The i900 is pretty sluggish and the interface is simply poorly implemented. It simply does not have any where near the responsiveness or continuity of the interface on a phone like the iphone. The problem is they have tried to customise the windows mobile interface but it is only half finished. They have only customised certain parts of it. You still need the stylus to operate it properly but it doesn't even have a place to put it on the unit itself.

The touch screen is nowehere near as responsive as the iphone. The interface is almost a mish mash of parts where finding a direct link to simple things such as sms is a 3 step process. It made me realise really how dated and convoluted windows mobile really is.

My friend is not tech saavy and is going to return it as he finds it too complicated. Frankly I don't blame him, for the un tech saavy it is simply a nightmare to use.

This is when I realised firstly the true scale of what apple has achieved with the iphone and secondly why they are able to sell so many underspeced phones. The fact is when it comes to making user interfaces and particularly touch screen interfaces, they are simply in a completely different league to the other phone manufactuers. The iphones responsiveness and ease of use makes the i900 look like an embaressing joke. And believe me i am no apple fan.

Samsung is one of the biggest mobile phone companies and tech manufacturers in the world yet they are simply unable to even make a tocuh screen phone that has an interface that remotely comes close to the iphone. People like my friend want something easy to use and intuitive but also cutting edge and that is what the iphone offers, the i900 simply doesn't. I always wondered why people would pay so much for a phone like the iphone with so many limitations and a relatively low spec. The thing is that no other manufacturer on the planet comes close to making such a responsive and ease to use touch screen interface as apple.

These companies really really need to try harder. I actually rate meizu highly for choosing to make a full touch interface from scratch using a brand new platform (Win CE 6.0). Windows mobile was never made for finger touch input and is a dated piece of sh*t. If Meizu can come anywhere close to the iphones interface they will certainly be ahead of the majority of mobile phone manufacturers making touch screen devices if this is the best one of the world biggest cell phone manufacturers can do.

Could the slow responsiveness be because it is an early firmware?

Think of how long Windows Mobile 6.0 has been out. Then again, it may be the Samsung preloaded software.
