Turn Windows XP into Vista FREE

So I had a thought... why waste so much money on something that doesn't offer me more functionality than my current OS? After searching google for a bit, I discovered "Vista Transformation Pack 6.0" which is simply awesome. You might want to check it out for your self! I don't know what the URL is, though.

I'm already having loads of fun with my 'new Vista' OS.

I believe I used that back in '05. I removed it because it messed up some things by replacing original Microsoft DLL and hogged resources.
Can't wait to play with the Meizu MX!

Keep it there for two more weeks and you'll need to format for sure...
Hope you have an extra drive or at least two partitions to keep your files safe
Internet has an answer for every question out there, not likely to be always the answer you're looking for.

How could it 'destroy the registry'?

And yes, I have backed up all of my data on my external drive.
If anything bad happens, a reformat wouldn't be bad - would solve a few glitches I've encountered (pre-installation of the Vista pack)

Just use the uxtheme.dll hack for windows xp and download some vista visual syles from deviantart. Thats the cleanest way I know of to theme your system, no 3rd party software or other registry hacks. =)

    WindowFX

The Vista pack (longhorn) isn't that new and uses quite some resources.
Why not try WindowFX and you'll have the transparant vista windows, tiles and lots of effects. You'll need a reasonable good video card though:D . And no 1024 MB main memory and 128 MB video memory, which Vista acquires at minimum.

Why don't you just buy vista anyway, that way, there a no hard disk worries, no screwing up funtionality worries, extra funtionality (loads of it!)
and to top it all off, you get a vista look !

The software analyzes your specs and gives you recommendations which effect will not be supported. I believe a GForce 2 will do but 32 MB isn't enough I'am affraid. Just try it.
BTW it doesn't come with a sidebar. I use separate software for that tool.

Do realize how expensive Vista in EU is, even for just an upgrade You have to be rich down here:D And than the required specs of mobo, graphic card etc. if you want to have Vista Premium (lets not even talk about Ultimate) running smoothly:eek:
I really like the looks and functionality of Vista but its still 'in progress' as not all software and games are compatible yet. My Xp is as far as it can get, so I'm quite happy if it shows the effects and looks of Vista but unhappily not the functionallity.
But I still hear to many complaints about Vista yet and quite some people turn back to XP.

Well i have Windows Vista and it doesn't only look different. It's pretty awesome actually, except that there are no omegadrivers for my graphics card yet, so I have to use the ATI ones. I didnt expect Vista to be more functional than XP, but it is. The search engine, folder functions, media organisation, just to name a few, are pretty good.
And Aero rocks, of course. I love it =)

You do know that requires downloading a pirated version of Windows, right?
[EDIT]: And not to mention a couple dozen programs?

Anyways, Vista is a pretty decent operating system. I'll live with it, and many improvements I find nice, but many of my old programs don't work with it (somewhat my fault for liking legacy DOS, and 95 games XD). I'd probably find my computer faster if I downgraded to XP, but I don't want to spend $100 for a license and it's already been in use for almost half a year. I still find my Vista desktop faster than my XP desktop, probably because the specs have a HUGE gap.

    My old Acer desktop's specs:

    2.8Ghz Celeron Processor
    Intel GMA 64MB Video Card
    768MB RAM (Added 512MB stick)
    160GB HD
    19" Monitor

    My newer Acer's specs:

    2.4Ghz*4 (9.6Ghz) Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600
1268MB Sappire ATI 2600 HD XT (Upgrade)
    2GB RAM
    320GB HD
    22" Monitor

Yes, I didn't include some specs, but the fundamentals are often enough.

I've want to upgrade from XP to Vista but "apparently" I won't be able to play some of the much-loved fan mission games from the Thief series.

So, because of that... I haven't bothered to upgrade yet. Maybe when I can afford to have two PCs, lol.

Don't upgrade, more often than not, the legacy components will be incompatible.
