Sony headphone suggestions

Hi all

Has anyone used this headphone before: Sony MDR-EX082

They are not earphones that you can buy in the shops, but are rather ones that come with new Sony MP3 players... they are awfully similar to the Sony MDR-EX85LP or -EX90LP... just wondering if anyone has used these specific earphones (-EX082) before... they are on sale on ebay, and there is a lot of them on sale. Differences between this earphone and the ones listed prior?

Thanks

I have read a couple of comments that suggest that they can be uncomfortable due to their shape but don't know much more about them.

Although slightly different version numbers they stock them at AudioCubes.com which is a good site to buy from. They are in Japan but ship globally with fast reasonably priced EMS, I just got my q-Jays from them 5 days from Osaka to NZ $10.00.

yeah... but the 90SL pr 85SL is quite pricey for me, Ex-082 on the other hand isn't as pricey... lol just don't know the difference between those earphones...

Now, while I haven't tried all Sony headphones, I haven't been impressed with any of their headphones and I currently own 5 sets. Everything from ear buds to the giant "music studio quality" type.

I would recommend the Creative EP-630 or Sennheiser CX300 if you are looking for ear cannals. They are great bang for the buck. I have a pair of the Sennheisers.

My daily headphones anymore are the Koss KCS75's as I prefer over the ear instead of ear cannals.

I have the EP630 except the left year stopped working, so I am in search for new earphones. I want something a bit different, but not expensive or crap to an extent. I might give these Sony's a try, seeing they are within my price range (the ex082).

You'll have to give us a review when done. I just ordered a set of EP630's to see how they compare to my CX300 and my Koss KCS75's (man they rule).

I guess it's really down to value for money on all these things. Will give a review once I receive my ex082... I reckon EP630 is really the best when it comes to value-for-money. It's major competitor is CX300, but then again it really comes to how much you're willing to pay and how much quality you want out of your earphones.

I haven't used the Sony MDR-EX082, so I'm not going to judge, but I can say that I really like my Sennheiser CX300

OK I have received my ex082 and as promised here is what I think of it:

It is pretty much the same as Creative EP-630, with a unique design viewable from photo above. It does not however form a perfect seal with the ear, which means it is not totally noise cancellation - with that said, it can be a good or a bad thing, depending on how you view it.

It is bad if you want total sound isolation, but it is also good if you still want to be able to chat to someone or listen out for stuff around you that is happening. I personally used to love total sound isolation, but got tired of taking my earphones out everytime my friend tries to speak to me. So I like these earphones in that matter. The treble is much crisper then the EP-630 though, and the bass not as loud and somewhat-too-much compared to EP-630 either.

These earphones are reasonable for the price I got them for ($22 AUD from ebay) but these ARE the default headphones for the new Sony MP3s, so that might raise some eyebrows. All in all, a good earphone to replace my broken EP-630

7.3 out of 10 given to the Sony MDR-EX082.
