iPhone - What do you think about it?

You might have mentioned that a new Apple Player / Phone / thingy has been released. This is it: The iPhone.

I know that it is not a pure music / media player, but it is able to do so. The thing that seems really cool to me is the touchscreen control, even though it is well known from the iriver Clix.
The iPhone will be available with 4GB or 8GB and will be quite expensive (~430$ for the 8GB)

More information: www.apple.com/iphone

Anyway, I want your opinion.

I do not think it is going to sell very well. There are plenty multimedia phones out there that cost MUCH less than $500. People, wait, let me rephrase that, SMART people are not going to pay half a grand on a smart-phone. The touch screen is a cool concept though, but there are other smart phones that have a touch screen that do everything the iphone does, so Apple cant rely say they mad a phone like no other. Also, knowing apple's "scratch resistant" (lol) screens, The phone is not going to look very pretty after a while of using it. And personally, I do not buy any thing from apple (Apple brainwashes you).

Currently, there are two things I feel makes this phone special:
  1. Album art manipulation in 3D
  2. Tilt sensor

iPhone is running a mature OS ...said to be OS X. WindowsMobile really looks old fashioned compared to this touchscreen controlled OS.
It has the potential to kill WindowsMobile in my opinion.

That looks cool, but as of last night (if it was released in today's paper here), Cisco Systems already sued Apple because they had the iPhone name registered and trademarked already.

shouldn't this be off topic?

anyways...about the iphone...well...it certainly looks sexy...gotta give credit to the design group at apple...would it function well being a touch screen? i don't think it will...i usually text blindly through my keypad so it won't work for me...plus if you made a call with that thing...omg the smudges it would make on the screen...unless you have an earpiece or something, which i'm not comfortable with when making calls...

...there's no question that the iphone is going to sell well (a lot of apple fans out there)...not as well as the ipod though.

...would have loved it if they just came out with a 6Gen IPOD with that design...a full screen IPOD with half the price...i'd think about getting that...but im happy with my meizu for now. :D

...btw...the iriver clix isn't touch screen...the w10 is touch screen...the clix 2 looks cool though...might go for that when it's released.

ok... It's really nice and i was decided to get one yesterday... but the saw on engadget that you can't install applications, no extended memory, no replaceable battery so, for those reasons that are actually a must for me, i think ill go for the LG Shine which seems really nice too..

i like the metallic/silver finish alot

The only reason it will sell is people think it's cool to buy it. Then they find out that it's really hard to read the screen with your grubby fingerprints all over it....

It looks sweet, but I wouldn't plunk down that much money for a first generation product. The 2-megapixel camera, lack of 3G, and 5-hour talk time are enough to turn me away. Nitpicky I know, but they charge me that much, I'd better be getting the best.

Best wait a year or so for the competitors to close in. I'm counting on Sony Ericsson, Samsung, and iRiver.

10 Reasons that the iPhone is going to crash and burn:

1. $500USD Price tag on a 2 year Cingular Contract - so how much do you think it would cost on a 1 year contract? no contract? or how about in other countries?

2. Battery life - 5 or 6 hours of just talk time? COME ON! So if you're playing music, watching videos, and talking, the battery will run out in like 2 hours or less! Burn, Apple... burn.

3. Screen - 3.5" nice, but will get scratched, easily broken (what with mobile life and all), and I highly doubt the resolution is going to be all that great.

4. Product Life - This will be stated again, but COME ON! If I'm spending that much money on a phone, I expect it to last a damned long time! If iPods were built to last about 2 years, how long do you think something this complex/high tech will last!?

5. Non user-replaceable battery - and we all know what that means when it comes to Apple products (tards)

6. No 3 year cellphone plan... why? Because iPods were always meant and built to last about 2 years or less.

7. Crap camera for a $500 phone (on 2 year contract) - every camera phone out there has a 2MP cam nowadays. My Nokia 6275i has one and I got it with 3 year warranty, bluetooth headset, and 1GB Kingston microSD card for $85CAD (about $78USD).

8. WIMAX/WIBRO/WIMAN - A new wireless technology spearheaded by Intel which has an accepted worldwide standard in place - launches sometime in 2007. It's almost the speed of wireless broadband. Imagine checking out anything you would on your PC from a phone or laptop anywhere you are for FAR less than a stupid data plan.

9. People are starting to realize a very important fact: iPods suck... Apple sucks for making them... and Apple's increasingly expensive products suck more and more. Apparently Apple believes that quality should be inversely proportional to quality.

10. Very small market - Most people who want to listen to music want something small, somewhat durable, and simple. The iPhone is none of those things. Most people who want a Cell Phone either buy a business cell phone (Blackberry, Motorola Q, etc.) a cheap phone, or a medium-high end phone with lots of features that doesn't cost very much money (Like my Nokia 6275i)

I see a future where things are much the same as they were in Terminator 2 - except instead of giant tanks crushing fields of human skulls, millions of broken iPhones will litter the streets.

In closing, Meizu M6 forever.

Well...Talking about Touch phones, and Cool Gadgets...I just bought a phone recently...A NEC n908.
Here is a picture of it with the our beloved Miniplayer...

Oh and if you are weird...it fits in the miniplayer's silicon case albeit a bit stretched...

And even better is it comes with a host of accessories -
2 batteries
2 stylus
some weird ring that you can hook your phone onto as well as a standard mini lanyard/loop
handsfree with detachable earphones...so you can put in those sennheiser cx300s if you really wanted...
128mb MicroSD card, or you could buy one of the bigger ones those crazy people at Sandisk cram into a tiny card the size of a babies little toe.
and all that plus more for AUD$350

Now is that a bargain or is that a bargain...?!

If Meizu can make me a media player that looks like this and isn't a phone, for reasonable money - I'll buy it!

Otherwise I'll be waiting for other companies to copy it and make the OS open to all, and use non-DRM technology/formats.

Also, the US price is around $600 - the planned start 2008 UK price has just been released...

...
wait for it...

£600!

What a rip-off

the iphone is awesome.
no other way to describe this baby.
let's just wait for the release...
it brings us into a whole new dimension with this fully touch-sensitive screen.
wonder if meizu will learn from this :P

if u look at all the features that the iphone brings to us, u would not say that its a rip-off.
in fact, i think its quite a reasonable price. considering all new mobile phones cost just as much or a lot more, the iphone is definitely cheaper in comparison.
just wonder if they could expand the 8GB memory to even more...
