HDD Help

I know most of you are Anti-iPod, but would you help me with one thing? Recently, a friend gave me their broken iPod. They said that they opened it and short circuited the main-board. Turns out they intalled the hard drive backwards. Now I have a iPod that doesn't have a HDD. I don't want to spend like another $199 for a 60 Gb hard drive. Any cheap solutions? If at all possible, I was thinking of sticking in a 20 Gb iPod's hard drive. I know that the connectors are diffrent, so any idea of how I can do that? Maybe some kind of adapter? Thanks for all your help everyone!

Edit: Oh, one last thing, is there any way to charge an iPod without a HDD? I tried charging through the USB, but it keeps on looking for a HDD, it doesn't charge.

I would like to help you... I just don't know anything about iPods.... but what you are saying really surprised me.
Things like short-circuiting its main-board and the replacement of its HDD are thing too far of what an iPod is.
This are the things I do with my rockchip... but I would do with my Meizu... only if somebody assures me that Meizu players will react with this extreme actions not being damaged.
I believe that iPod firmware wont accept a small Hdd when is was flashed in factory for a for a big one.
Gosh!!!... that would make an iPod almost as modifiable as a Chinese player... I really doubt it.

ah!... and indeed I am anti-Apple... not anti iPod... I just don't like their commercial and indecent behaviour... like it was to not allow a owner of a song to wherever they want. F*** them.
And I don't like the way they put a finger in the mouth of user selling them a shit like iPhone overpriced in US$ 200.

As a person who fixes and repairs iPod, look on eBay for a 60GB 1.8" Toshiba hard drive and you can get them for like $75. BTW, what generation is it? Because the 4G HDD won't work with the 5G iPod.

LOL, I'll admit I have not repaired any iPods in a while but will probably be repairing the new ones soon whether it be a cracked LCD or broken housing, whatever Apple won't cover. I just bought broken ones off of eBay, bought new parts, repaired it and resold it. One time I was lucky enough to find a WORKING iPod video that was in mint condition for $75.

It is a 5G iPod Video (not the 5.5G).

Perfect, just look up "mk6008gah" on eBay and you should find the 60GB Toshiba hard drive for the iPod video.

Yeah, but that is a bit too pricey for me if you know what I mean, I want a cheap solution. Maybe if there is a used Hdd anyone doesn't want anymore?
