Zune Thread, Resurrected

So back on the old forums there was this thread talking about the features in Microsoft's new Zune media player. The way I see it, the major pros are:
-big screen
-rubberized case (won't get scratched!)
-FM tuner
-WiFi file sharing
-Future integration with satellite radio
-really cool interface
-there's finally a major competitor to Apple

But it comes with a few cons:
-WiFi is pretty much useless (songs expire after three plays or three days, can only connect to other Zunes - can't sync to computer or hotspots wirelessly)
-It comes in brown
-Only about half the songs in the Zune Marketplace can be shared at all
-Zune Marketplace pretty much sucks (strict DRM, no videos yet, confusing "point" pre-pay system)
-Seriously, it comes in brown?
-Doesn't work as a drive - songs can only be transferred using their own software

I'll stick with my Meizu, thanks.

It's pretty big as well, isn't it?
And the screen may be large, but what is the resolution of it?

I'm perfectly happy with my M6 at the moment. I'll keep using that until it breaks (I hope that will take at least a couple of years), and then I'll just buy the newest Miniplayer with bigger flash RAM.

As far as size goes, if I recall correctly the Zune is a little flatter and narrower than an iPod, but a little taller as well. And the screen's 320*240, just like the Miniplayer, so each pixel is going to be a bit bigger to fit the larger size. That means details won't be as fine, but you can see it from further away, I suppose - less eyestrain?

According to a gizmodo survey, of over 5000 voters, 40% chose brown to be the color of their choice. The zunes have a translucent outer shell that refracts light in such a way that it looks like it is glowing. The outer shell on the brown is green, and it actually looks pleasing to me.

But if I had to I would definitely chose the black--which has a blue outer shell.

But ultimately, forget zune. The meizu is the sickness. The zune is gigantic - I don't want to carry around an external hardrive on me. And I bought the meizu primarily because of the lack of the proprietary bs that does nothing but interfere.

I'm with you 100%
Except the Zune technically doesn't even work as an external hard drive without that "proprietary bs."

the zune is definitely worth its money
however the cons definitely outweigh the pros
therefore, meizu ftw!

Don't forget that M$ have made a bit of a boo-boo by making it incompatible with M$ Vista.

I'm really impressed by their internal communication system!

Evidently MS is working on some updates that will allow the Zune to finally make proper use of its WiFi. Soon, they say, it will be able to connect wirelessly to a Windows Vista computer, and the XBox 360 will be able to play music that's wirelessly streaming from the Zune (or computer). Pretty slick, but maybe too little, too late.

I received my Zune today (brown) free shipping & no tax at amazon.com... I don't know whow they do it!

Trouble is I use Windows Vista which is not compatible with the Zune software yet... how fortunate it contains pre-loaded content! I'll post some Mini Player - Zune images unless someone beats me to it!

There are a few 'hacks' available to make the Zune work properly with Vista, as well as a way to get it working as a proper storage device [meaning you can put any file type on there, which isnt do-able 'as is']. You're then able to share those files over the WiFi which would be pretty cool [sharing pdf's for example]
