Cheap mp3/4 players on e-bay

Has anyone ever purchased any of the cheap mp3/4 players on e-bay, and
if so what was your experience getting it, and the quality of the device?

The quality is crappy. The battery is usually less than 5h. They can be hacked to show more than it's real memory capicity. And then it just freezes so you need to formate it, and when you do so, it will brick. And then it's very hard to find the correct firmware for the player.(This happens most to hacked "4 & 8Gb" players) The video playback is very crappy, amv format and only 18 fps (or 16 i'v forgot) makest the video choppy and low quality. Some of the MP4 players have a 2.5mm audio jack(ugh I hate that). The screen is not so good, 65k colours. The players are usually slow and unresponsive, and the browser function can be useless sometimes.

I had a Nano Clone MP4 that was 'ok' but the battery was teribble and such. Now I got a cheap MP4 player again that I bought on eBay for $30, 1Gb. It works ok. But I can't stand the ugly GUI, crappy battery, cheap quality and so on. A Meizu is so much better.

There are Rockchip MP4 players(that play divx) that are better than "regular MP4 players"...but still, a Meizu is a lot better.

After I bought a Meizu, I said no to cheap MP4 players.

DimaMp4 pretty much said everything. Trust me, I've had my share of cheap mp3/mp4 players. Although some are pretty decent, you're much better off going with a rockchip or meizu, and preferrably the latter.

Thanks for the info, was just wondering. I have a Meizu and love it except
for these blanking lines! But was just curious about the e-bay player offering.
Seems like a lot of people that purchase the players on e-bay are getting
ripped off!

I got one of those 4GB "nano" clones for US$31 (plus $16 for shipping) and it turned out to be a hacked 1GB unit. There is a lot of this kind of thing going on. Take a look here for detailed info:
http://www.schnapp.org/e-britain_ripoff/

Actually the player itself was not too bad. It would run for about 3.5 hours on video and 12 hours or so on music. The interface is rather ugly but OK. Only problem is that it is hard to tell what you are getting.

OTOH, I am very pleased with the 4GB white M6 that I got.

So, if they can hack a 1gb version to report it's a 4gb version, why can't they hack useful features or fixes?

Because the idea is to hack the memory to read more than it is so they can rip people off, not put anything useful on it. By the time most buyers figure out what's going on i.e. File Format Errors, freezing, and other problems, they've already left positive feedback and too much time has passed to file a complaint.

I've bought two Chipods from eBay. The first was hacked to read 4gb and was 1. The second was actually 4gb. They are decent players, but don't hold a candle to a Meizu.

I guess my point should have been, if black hat hackers can create crap from the firmware, whitehat hackers should be able to do some useful stuff. I don't guess there are any whitehat hackers hacking the M6.........YET!
