Copy protected CDs - I want them as mp3s!

Hi...

I have a couple of CDs that just don't want to get ripped... I've tried 4-5 different rippers and tried to put tape on the edge of the CD. Nothing works.

So what should I do?

Run DVD 43 in the background - That may work (Its freeware , google it)
You just run it in the background of your cd ripping software and it will rip fine.

I already have it... And there's an icon in the system tray with an unhappy smiley. But when I try to open the program it says something about "no DVD inserted".

I have a freeware ripper called Exact Audio Copy, and it can find the ID3-tags for the songs, but the rip button is not active. And all the tracks are shown as 0:10 and with a size of 1.68 MB, the two last ones are 400 and 200 MB :O

Try EAC http://www.exactaudiocopy.de/en

From the feature-list:
  • Detection of read errors and complete losses of sync and correction in the secure mode, as far as possible
Because it's on a german domain they can not say, "works with copy-protection" but trust me, it works with every protection! :D

Good Night and Good Luck.

Well you should get an icon in the system tray that gives to option for audio protection with a smiley or straight face. Maby try and update the program?

Yeah it gives the option to tick the "Remove Audio CD protection", but it simply won't let me even though.
I installed it a few days ago so should be the latest edition.

Sorry have overseen your quote ... Hm never had a problem with any copy-protection using secure mode. Maybe it's time for google with your cd's "Album XY copy protection", but please consider this entry in a different forum:

while EAC is better than other ripping programs in some areas, there is no one magic solution to ripping copy protected CDs successfully. it requires a combination of software and hardware and not just software. you should try the other extraction modes. sometimes burst mode will handle these discs better than secure mode.
I have a LG DVD-Burner ... for example.

@Susanna:

Ahh yeah I've heard about the hardware part before. I'll try to rip them on my Desktop computer then and see what happens.

Thanks for the advice.

Yeh, I use a lightscribe multidrive - But i think it means more disc skip error hardware than make or type of drive.

I think if you use a pure audio cd-player with digital output you should be able to copy any protected audio-cd.
(works perfect with older players, but the speed is 1x).

Have you tried holding the shift button when inserting the disc? (hold it for 30 to 60 secs, as some drives are slow to read the disc)
This might prevent the copy protection from starting.

Using this trick I never had any trouble ripping any disc.
