Phew, that's a load off. I'm not an audiophile, but I can tell how lacking iPod's can be. I really believe most people think they are great, because the earphones they come with aren't as bad as the ones that seem to come with most players. I am sure I would still have been okay with my purchase and I plan to use it for video's more so anyway, but after owning the M6 (even with the micro studder) it would be difficult to go to the audio "quality" of the iPod.
P.S. Have you noticed that for about the last 2-3 pages, we are about the only one's posting in this thread?

Hey Daremos - After you upgraded the firmware, did you have to format the flash memory?
Edit: Nevermind found on *********.com's forums that yes it would need to be formatted afterwards.

Yes, very much, but the size of the screen on the 878 is different so i'm not sure they would be compatible.

Well I am certainly considering an Onda now with all the praise you have been heaping on it... I really just want the best (valued) 2.4-2.8" mp3/mp4 player, have been waiting on an 8 gb M6 SL (which is rumored to have a wolfson chip as well...), but am now tired of waiting and have seen more options like the onda or even the new teclast c290... your thoughts?

Onda is an awesome player (spectacular screen, wonderful sound, every time I am enjoying more touchpad)... but with limitations as a Rockchip device... so it is Teclast, but this manufacturer is doing a good effort to close the breach.
Teclast C290 seems to me also an great option.
From software point of view Meizu it's the best, despite of its bugs.
Anyway lately I've heard lots of good things of Cowon D2... but it cost lots more.

To me, the Onda VX858 and the Meizu M6 have great bang for your buck. I haven't seen the cost of the Teclast C290 for any size other than 2GB, but that seems to be on par with the VX858 in cost. If videos are important, then the VX858 is the way to go, however, if videos aren't important then the M6 is the way to go. I have both. The audio is not bad at all with the VX858, just not as strong as the M6. However, in the video department, the Onda pretty much crushes the M6 (24 fps vs 20 fps and 2.83" vs 2.4"). Also there is not nearly the audio drift with the Onda compared to the M6. I have all of my videos encoded at 22 fps for my Onda and the audio stays on most of the day, but with my M6 even at 18fps it has some serious drift.
I will admit the touch screen is a bit of a gimick. Somtimes I wish it didn't have the touch screen, however, it does have that cool factor that seems to impress everyone around me!
Edit: I agree that if I could afford it, I would have gotten the Cowon D2, but for the price I could get a 4GB M3 and a 2GB VX858.

I don't know much about the Ainol V950, but the V2000 is the bees knees from what I understand, however, the V2000 is expensive due to manufacturing issues (at least that is what I have read).

Well I decided
Well I went with the M6SL 8 gb as they called me to tell me it was in and provided very friendly service. Also they didn't have any vx858s (just the LE edition) and I think they were overcharging for it a bit. It did have a bigger, crisper screen/videos as I got to try both before I decided for sure.
Well my roomate will probably get a new player once his old crappy sandisk 512 mb player gives out or once he gets jealous enough, so he will probably check out a cheaper Onda or Teclast depending on what is out when this happens.
Thanks for the advice!

Ainol V950, if I am not wrong, is based on a new Actions chipset ATJ2135, as it is V800 and V900 models.
It it were so, then Ainol V950 would have the best software available for an MP4 nowadays, sporting lots of functionalities not seen in low cost MP4 players. as it is support for all know audio format, video AVI xvid of 320x240 at 30 fps in 500k bitrate, video and song resume, support for SRS WOW, managing of ID3 with song ordering by artist, album, etc. and playlist, photo with zoom and rotation, tools like calendar calculator and stopwatch, date and time on screen, disk encryption for secret areas. Strangely this ATJ2135 doesn't manage cover art!!.

As a Rockchip this player have the tools to change is appearance, one of the characteristic I demand from my players. I love to see it in constant changes.
Original firmware comes in Chinese but with English always as an option.

Hi,
I recently baught the onda vx858 and wanted to get down to business with adding pics videos and things. When I opened the box ,it came with all the necessities and an installation cd and a manual in Chinese .I did a search for installations on google and ran into you guys , read about the good and the bad on the onda vx858. I registered and now I'm asking if anyone could help me on installation. I have plenty of questions ,not sure if all of them will get answered but here goes.........
Ive tried to install new firmware on my vx858 i got 2 days ago, but with everything in chinese, I'm like a fish out of water. I have switched the language to english , then tried settings -firmware update-and i get the chinese language surrounding the "Do Not Enter" simble and below that is a "green"arrow with more chinese. I figure, maybe they want me to plug it to the usb to the pc , so I did . All I get is the blue screen with a pc over a bar that looks like a candy cane on its side and more chinese below. Now im wondering - what now??? Ive installed the Refresh firmware 2.8.1 onto my pc and tried to upgrade to a firmware with the following: 01.00.0017 . so i go to update and it reads:
Finding Rock USB devicei-i-
not found any rock device
Am I missing the drivers , because I really dont know where to begin with that silly cd in chinese , for one I am unable to load any thing .
Do I have to place the rfw files on the player itself or the card ??
Why do i get "Error applying transforms. verify the specified transform paths are valid" when i try to install from a cd with all chinese?
On the Onda vx858 I was able to see which firmware it has and it read:
Fw 00.00.0016
2007-6-28
flash mem 0/ 0MB
Where exactly on the www.onda.com.cn website is the firmware 00.00.0017
and what do I have to do to update ?
If I have drivers ,the pc can read it right?
Do i have to format the mini sd on the pc or the onda vx858, and if i have to format on the vx858 where do you format?
How do I get the firware for the new skins as I think that is a whole lot better then the normal one.
If any one can answer any questions , I would be very happpy

mrdc31...
Later I will upload some firmware for Onda VX858 in a site for MP4 more general than this, which is a Meizu fansite.
Just copy and paste your requirement there, I will give you support. Anyway, some other users there are supporting rockchip players like it is your Onda VX858.
