5.1 home theater sound system and meizu m3

Hi there,

I hope this is not a too stupid question so please excuse if it is (I'm quite new to this sound issue):

I consider buying a relatively cheap 5.1 Channel Home Theater System with 2500 Watts PMPO to use with my meizu m3.
Now I wonder if this is a good combination, in other words will the meizu m3 be able to deliever real 5.1 sound to the Home Theater System / will the the Home Theater System be able to "spit out" all the possible qualities of the meizu m3?

Thanks for your help,
Wassi

Hi Wassi,
Unfortunately, the M3 will not put out 5.1. To get 5.1 out of a player to go into an amp like a home theater system, it would need to output a digital signal. These are usually optical or in a coax form.
The optical input on a home theater system would be labled as such and usually comes with a small plug that keeps hole closed to dust - it will be about the size of typical headphone jack. A coax digital input often looks like a typical RCA or Phono plug and is labelled digital in.
Anyway, there are very few portable players that output digital audio. I think that Kenwood makes some. If you really want that, go search on head-fi.org in their forums.

You will be able to hook up to the Unit, but as stated above - there will not be 5.1 discreet digital channels of music.

SAYING THAT. It's very rare to find any music that's actually encoded in 5.1. SO - what will happen - is you hook it up normally (Mini to RCA,) and turn the reciever to Pro-logic - and it will decide the 5.1 channels for you.

5.1 usually doesn't give you a proper soundstage for music anyway - but through prologic - it can be very neat sometimes.

This means that it will not be surround music. You won't hear the drums from front left only and guitars from mostly right rear or so.
It will most likely be stereo, but with more speakers.
