Wrong track order when playing an album

    Wrong track order when playing an album

    When I play an album from the Music menu on my M3, the album is put in the current playlist in alphabetical order based on track name. Is there a way to make the order depend on the track number in the tag or on the file name (my files are of the form "04. Some song.mp3") ?

    The strange thing is that when I play the same album from the browser the tracks ar in the good order. But navigating in the browser is cumbersome and I'd like to avoid that for simple listening.

    On my files the number of the track is already in the file name :-S

    change tags to version 1 instead of version 2 or both at the same time
    Internet has an answer for every question out there, not likely to be always the answer you're looking for.

    I also already have tags v1.1 (v1.0 don't have track number).

    Hi,
    in the 'settings' menu, you have to set the 'song order' to ON in 'Main Menu'.
    After you can choose in 'Music' menu the song order type (title,filename...)
    It is working fine for me.

    what you are saying is necessary only if you whant to have the 'song order' directly in the mail menu...

    you can reach that by going in \music\song order onstead of having it in the main menu

    It didn't change anything. But I just discovered that the song order is correct for some albums, but not all. I'll investigate what makes them working.

    i had the same prob today, i just added the track number with itunes (for example just 1, not 1 out of 15).

    Song Order-->Album, and that's it...it works fine

    I don't have itunes, and I'd rather not install it. Can you share a mp3 with such a tag so that I can compare it ? BTW are you talking v1.1 or v2.x tags ? You cannot set the total track count in v1.1, so I don't see how you could remove them.

    you may need to have tracks TAGS as 2 digits e.g. 01 02 03 etc, instead or 1 2 3
    if single digit used song order may be
    1 10 11 12 13 14 15 16 17 18 19 2 20 21 22 23 24 25 26 27 28 29

    if only 12 tracks order would be

    1 10 11 12 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9

    is this happening?

    iTunes is not that bad... what do you use... winamp? wmp ?

    btw
    i convert tags to v1.1 (song number: 1,2,3,4 ecc)
    the filename is
    01 artist, title
    02 artist, title

    and so on, but i think it' doesn't matter the filename, it's just because i like to have everything organized.

    nope, not for me.
    i use this methon for the filenames, in case i want to play an album from the browser (never happens though)

    It's not happening for me either. The first track is clearly that with the first track name in alphabetical order.

    I finally found what was going on.

    - My MP3 have tags v1.1 and tags v2.4.
    - First, the M3 does not support tags v1.1 and fall backs to v1.0, so he can't read track number from tag v1.x. This may be considered a bug or not.
    - Then, it seems that the program I use to tag my MP3 files (MusicBrainz's PicardQT) is not correctly handling embedded images (APIC frames). Other tag editors can reload the tag, but the M3 is not robust enough and discard the whole tag.

    So in my case, as most of my albums have tags with embedded pictures (in a APIC frame) which the M3 does not support, most of my tags v2 were discarded, and the M3 was reading tag information from the tag v1.x, but without the track number.

    So all I have to do is to retag my entire music library without embedded images (anyway they are useless since the M3 doesn't handle them).

    Here is what I write when somebody asked on how to name the ripped files.

    There is several choices for play your music:

    1.- By all songs the music will be ordered by filename or artist or album. In 4 Gb, as is my Music Card machine, I can easily have about 40 cds. to browse all that amount of songs is impossible.
    2.- By artist then by album is the best, but there is a small problem here: the songs within the album are ordered alphabetically, which is the worse way, because the artist put his song by track number for an artistic reason. So it has no sense to listen the songs alphabetically. Some people would like this, but it's not natural.
    3.- By album the song within the album are ordered alphabetically. Same as before.
    Then using the browser, seems to be the most suitable way, but it's needed to follow several menus and answer several questions (open? or play?)... to finally play an entire album.

    To avoid this it's needed to add track# in the name of the songs (I mean in the tag) and you'll be able to choose artist and album easily as explained in option 2.

    If there is the option of create playlists, but that requires some extra work than simply enjoy the music.

    This is the only problem I have found in this wonderful Meizu machine. This made a difference if favor of the expensive Apple iPod.

    Solution is rather simple... to sort automatically songs by track number instead of alphabetical order, as it was what the artist choose to order his creation.
    Or make that sort order option applies too to Artist and album choices.

    Well I've read the other thread here that dealt with that problem. . I realize the m3 doesn't support v2 tags and not v1.1.
    V1.0 can't have track number data so the only reasonable solution is to tag your title as "track#[song title]" and then sort the songs order to "album".

    I'll give it a try when I have patience to re-tag my albums. lol
