Thanked 0 Times in 0 PostsThis one made me think a bit... is it possible to have some kind of compressed file, or something like the Resource.bin file (a file with the images hidden inside it so they can't be modified and mess up the program) that contains all the default images, so when you run the program, it brings up the default view? Adding to that, making it possible to pull off what the older Resource Editor 1.0 can do where it imports all the images from whatever folder you choose, and replaces whichever images you have made in the default view to show you instantly what you've got so far? That way, one wouldn't have to keep an entire folder of the images in order to view what few they have done so far, replacing the new ones themselves, deleting the default ones they are replacing.
Aside from this suggestion, you could add a bunch of features when you have time, like a button to make the USB image go through its animation in realistic fashion, a button to toggle viewing the music status bar full, empty, or the volume bar, a switch to toggle the volume bar on and off in radio view, as well as other elements in music view, like repeat (once and all) and shuffle, and weather play, pause, or stop displays... basically, giving your program all the realistic display functions that the M6 does, so they can see every possible thing in the program without making a test skin for the player? Wow, long sentence. ^_^;
I still need to take a good look at the program, as I was busy, and just got on at random yesterday and Monday, but I'll take a good look tonight and see what I can tell ya! So far, it sounds like a perfect program to simulate the views on the M6! I'd also like to help figure out some other things that could be toggled, too, and make it even MORE helpful.
A few of those things is how it displays the selection bar on both the menu screen, and the browser screen, AND phases of the charging battery icon in both USB and priority charge... and one last, very helpful thing I'll be finding out within a day or so, is exactly how much of the full battery icon is displayed when at 1/4, 1/2, 3/4, and full charge. I've found that mine does not display full charge when it is, or at least, it's only like that because that part of the image doesn't need displayed, because the regular battery icon only uses about 4/5 of the image for showing the charge level.
Good luck with the program!

EDIT: I checked all 3 screens and found a few things that need fixed, but it's looking good!
First up, the Radio screen... the font looks very close there, but I'm planning on finding the exact font, size, and spacing, so we all know exactly what it really is. Also, there is the volume bar that shows up when you're on this screen. If you could, make this a toggle On/Off thing, so you can see it with the volume bar in use, and without the volume bar in the way.

Next, the Record screen needs a few fixes. The fonts are a bit more off on this screen, but not a big issue since we still need to know the size and everything, so don't worry about that. However, the record bar is actually correctly centered in the M6, so you need to move this bar on this screen 1 pixel to the right.

Everything else fits perfectly so far! I have a suggestion just for you, though, Thusti. You could add my template images into your viewer, colored red as I did to show you the alignment compared to your program, and make them the top layer and at 30% transparency, just on your testing version so that you can easily find and fix any problems if you'd like. Just take them out for the finished code when you post a new version, since it isn't needed for viewing skins.
Actually, I have another idea... you could add in the text bars to show the full text length and height! that would help a great deal for those making things that depend on text location. All the other guidelines can go, since the images are already showing, just leave the text guidelines in and make them an adjustable transparent layer... possibly with adjustable color, since skin colors would vary, and be hard to see if it's set a single color. Is that possible?Last edited by DChronos; 01-17-2007 at 02:34 AM.

Thanked 0 Times in 0 PostsExcellent work, a great utility for skinners. As it seems you seem to be able to understand how the resource.bin is put together, would it be possible (and I'm just thinking out loud here) that in the future you would be able to put together a more user friendly resource editor?
One where you could view the skin like you can in the current skin viewer, perhaps click on an element or graphic, swap in a custom graphic (without having to search through a huge list of numbers etc), see what the change looks like instantly just like your skin viewer (oh my tummy is full of butterflies) and then save the customised resource file.
I believe that would be the ultimate tool for the skinners out there!

Thanked 0 Times in 0 PostsThis is already on my todo list to be able to save the skin directly to a resource.bin file. But this will probably not come too soon though. First some other things

I didn't really figure out the resource.bin though. I just used the .dll file that came with the resource editor. But I do had to figure out the dll

Wow great job !
Another simple suggestion : make the Music screen look like a song is playing (about 30% so we can see the progressbar), give it a fake song name, etc.
Good luck on continuing this wonderful piece of work ! As said above it has a HUUGE potential !

Thanked 0 Times in 0 PostsInstead of this, you should make a toggle switch between empty bar, full bar, and volume bar... and maybe, if people want this too, some kind of half full volume and music bars, but your program would have to take 2 images, cut them in half, and paste them together in the program to make a half full bar.

Will ResourceEditor work with .Net Framework 2.0? I think I've read that 1.1 had to be re-installed in order to get it work again.
Any ideas how to get both tool work at the same time?

Thanked 0 Times in 0 PostsResource Editor 1.0 needs .NET 1.0, and Resource Editor 1.1 uses the newer 2.0. Check my skins list thread for a quick link to .NET 1.0, and to see the main differences between the editors. *points to signature*
