Hello,
I wanted to know if it is possible to modify a HSDPA Stick to get it work with the meizu. Is it possible to replace the usb plug of those sticks by an plug which the meizu has on the bottom.
If it doesnt work, would it be only a hardware problem or an software problem too?www.softnation.de

Thanked 138 Times in 53 Poststheoreticly the SoC of the m8 should be able handle this. (Work as usb server)
But the software (windows) is not configured as host. And i think its kind of disabled at startup. Under linux i think this would be possible

Thanked 73 Times in 23 PostsNice, soo that means that we could surf with hsdpa speed if the android firmware comes out for the m8. Does anybody know if the m9 will have hsdpa integrated?

Thanked 200 Times in 145 PostsAnd again ^^
if there will never be a official Android for the M8 there wont be 'leaks' since no meizu developer will (officialy) work on Android for M8.
It will be developed by fans and when it gets into the wild they will be 'test builds' 'experimental builds' 'release candidates'... 'finals' (hopefuly)
a 'leak' signifies that there is a closed circle of developers that does not want its work to be released to the public before it is done.
Android will now more then ever be a user-effort and so very probably open to any user with enough esprit, knowledge or time to learn the basics.
At the moment i dont know if any active USB port is even available and would require a special cable (we only have a mini USB connector)
i think if we can manage to use bluetooth and pair it with another mobile with HSDPA we might be able to get there but that would somehow be through the chest into the eye... (you already have a HSDPA phone then and would only use the M8 hardware and have the bottleneck of BlueTooth 2.0)
So at the moment i say no.
It is not possible.
We dont have the hardware (cable to conect to the device).
We dont know if it is possible to the M8 hardware to connect a Device as slave to it.
We dont have the software (driver to use a device as Modem for windows CE).Meizu M8 SE - FW 0.9.9.18 (dao89 n450) Dualboot LBE A11 Android 2.2

Thanked 189 Times in 130 PostsI remember that i have spoken about this kind of operation in the past, the thread must still be here somewhere in the mod & dev section.
Basicly all responses are correct; it will work & it won´t work.
*Wince : Since no one managed to lay their hands of a SDK to rebuild mymobile completly from scrap, we will problably never see USB host features.
If it did , some devs could build some CE drivers to get your usb stick to work.
*Android : Ahhhh hot & cold topic.
R3wdy´s explanation told it all. It can be done since our device has USB host/OTG support, but we need more "android" developers to get a newer kernel running. So if there are no more developers it will be like Loonix mentioned : some fan ports won´t make it happen.
Anyway, i wanted to provide you with a small teaser :
Having USB Host support on Android smartphones has long been a request, especially now we’re seeing more capable handsets with processors that could, feasibly, allow them to work as basic netbook alternatives. Now there’s one way to add USB Host capabilities to the Motorola DROID, but as with any first-generation hack it’s not exactly pretty.
The system takes advantage of the fact that Motorola used USB-OTG capable hardware when they built the DROID, choosing to pair it with a standard USB Micro-B port rather than the Micro-AB port normally found on an OTG device. To work around that, you need to create a microUSB to USB connector cable – with some judicious rewiring of a couple of regular cords – together with a tiny adapter that, when inserted into the DROID while it reboots, enables the Host mode.
There are still quite a few issues with the implementation; only one device will be recognized before the DROID kicks itself out of Host mode, there are issues with premature disconnects and of course there aren’t really the drivers to actually do anything. Plugging in a memory key, for instance, sees it recognized and powered but not actually accessible. Still, the Android developer community has shown itself to be fast-moving when it comes to adapting to new hacks, so it probably won’t be long until all this is polished up in a custom ROM.

There’s a simple hack to use your Motorola Droid phone as a USB host. It is a hardware-only hack that doesn’t require you to crack open your phone, root it, or even to change firmware (although device drivers in the stock Android image may be quite limited). The dongle above is used as a key to enable the mode while the phone is booting. This was repurposed from a car charging cable by removing the wires and resistor and shorting the resistor pads. Once the phone is in host mode the dongle is swapped for a simple USB-mini to USB-A socket adapter, built from two cables you probably have lying around. Now you can plug in any device you want.
