    M8 Database sms full

    Hi,

Since few day i think i m around the number limit of sms received/sent.
I would like to know is there any way to change this limite or moving the database to another place to have more memory. Because i think it s on the Rom and will be better to have it on the Disk.

I tried to find it on the Reg but so long to find one ...

Well anyway if someone know a tip ll be helpful

Make a data backup with all the messages like you would normally, then copy that folder to your computer or where you want to keep it, and then you can delete all the messages from the phone.

Maybe there's some SMS backup software out there on the chinese bbs, but I'm not sure...

That's the problem, your text messages are not stored on the 8Gb, but on the ROM(256mb, if i am right), but on the ROM Meizu OS is installed to.
So you would only have about 100mb free on your ROM.
Maybe you can try deleting programs that are installed on the ROM.

    Hi,
Well it s not about who need or didn t.
Its about i want my sms on my phone because i bought a phone of 8Gb and i consider than i can stock a lot of sms.
It s quite easy i think for meizu to stop stocking the sms in the Rom and stock it in the disk. and is it the same with the contacts i can t have more than x. Then i don t call that a phone. Look after IPhone u don t have any limits then why meizu add one it s a no sens.

    First Goole said:
The iPhone can hold 1000 individual text messages.
So please stop doing the apple fanboy without knowing what you say.

    Second:
Its technicly not very smart to save small often chnaged/deleted data in the nand flashes. thats because you must delete a whole block when change something (i will not exlpain this further), and those delete/write cycles are limited and if the hardware has reached this limit, you just cant read/write anymore.

So if you want to save more sms on this phone, do it like its did on iphone and write a programm which exports and saves the messaged to pc or flash.

    just my 2 cents

P.S. i must correct myself slightly. With the newest software, the iphone can save 7500 sms. But this doesnt changes anything.

erev, i must agree with the other forum members and maybe instead of comparing everything with an iphone (yeah me to hates apple fanboys, sorry)
    try to compare it with a schi/hi/..-phone crap;

the internal rom is so limited on some devices, that everything needs to be stored on SD. It leads to issue´s like r3wDy mentions and evenmore : it works terrible slow that way!

Last but not least : try to search in the reg for names like the sms database?

Where did i wrote i m an apple fan ?
    I m just comparing 2 phone.
And if u think i m an apple fan that will mean Meizu is a great competitor .....
Anyway i bought a Meizu if i was a fan of apple i ll buy an IPhone ......
Anyway it s not the question.
Well what i saw it s Meizu can't then i think it's a mistake ( It s my personal opinion ). As meizu can limit to see 25, 50, 100 after 100 why don't put those extra sms on the Disk ... it's maybe a good way ....
I'm not a developper but if someone want ...
:D Thanks for the answer anyway

    hi erev!

You´re right, you did not write it but you used the "i" word, never do that again (to avoid flamewars) Thing is everyone does like the "itoy" is the holy grail but it is not, really not.

    Anyway back on topic.
Myself did not check the reg yet, but when looking at my backup files in /disk/backup/date/sms/ i do notice the sms.edb file.
The same file can be found in /device/document and settings/

So this meain that the sms 'database' never gets extracted/converted/..., so when you would use a remote registry tool to search on sms.edb or.edb you must find some linking to it.

How did you search until now through the reg?

The reason they do not put the SMS in the disk is that when you connect the phone to your pc you still want the SMS functionality. If they stored the SMS on the disk, there would be a problem as the /disk would be mounted by the pc rendering it inaccessible for the M8, thus the SMS can not be saved.

They could however made a function to store the SMS on the ROM while connected to the pc, then transfer it over but that would be such a hassle, and we all know the speed of Meizu's developers. Another solution would be to store all sms older than 'so many days' on /disk. But again this requires a function to be run every 'nth minute/hour/day' and would make a hassle.

And least, r3wDy has a good point.

However if anyone is eager to make some kind of program, a SMS backup solution for PC would be a great!
