The S9 doesn't play MPEG, it plays AVI and WMV.
The specifications can you find here.

Once again, proof positive that obsessively engineered firmware and elegant circuit design will always make the difference between an OK player and a great player.
I would like to confirm what you are saying, in fact Wolfson WM8750S is in some of my old players VX858 for instance and it's a rather old DAC. This would be a step backward of Cowon design as they have used the following configuration for D2:

Cowon D2 > Telechips TCC7801 + Wolfson WM8985, this awesome DAC is only used in few players as it seems to be very costly.

I am in doubt about what is the chip of S9 that could be a complete new Telechips (DAC integrated) or a RMI Alchemy AU series also DAC integrated. Latest Cowon, players like O2, uses TI DaVinci DAC integrated with very good results. I wonder in what chip they can implement BBE+ which is the great goodie of S9.

chengdude... It would be nice if you can give me the source where you take this information... ... thanks in advance

    There you go:

    Collected S9 reviews by other sites - Cowon S9 - abi>>forums

I certainly no expert, but isn't the whole point how you use the chip rather than just measured specifications? I mean, you said you really love your M3, which uses the same Wolfson chip as Teclast, SmartQ, Oppo, Newman, Onda...any others? I'm guessing Cowon and its "Golden Ears" boss chose that chip for a reason.

I judge more by my ears than specifications... ... M3 and M6 uses a DAC Philips UDA1380TT which I believe is the cause of stutter issue.

M6SL uses a Wolfson DAC... I'm trying to get one second hand.

My mistake, then...sorry. I always thought both the M3 & M6SL used the WM8987 and the first generation M6 used Philips.

Surely the best PMP will be M7... only if the pornographer Jack Wong realize that he is in the industry to make great PMP... and that Nokia, Ericsson or whatever are here to make cell phones.

M8 is a great device with all to be one of the best machines around... except that it has an annoying cell phone and a internet browser and a unaffordable price... for that shit there is a cheap iPod that will do the trick easily.

But a good PMP????... gosh!!! the only one available today is Cowon S9, unfortunately a company that follow the rules of the country that is sending humankind to hell (unless Mr. Obama take firmly the control).

So we want that Jackie remove the shit of internet and cell phone and put in the market the long waited M7... that have to be, withgout any doubt, the best PMP at a reasonable price. JW... dont forget to put a card slot m****er!!!

What are your first impressions FDX, is it worth the price? And how about sound quality?

Oh sorry, I didn't see your question

The S9's screen is amazing! Everything looks so natural, the colors are great and if you rotate the screen, it looks always similar. It's the best screen I've ever seen!
The sound quality is also fantastic, first of all when you enable BBE+, JetEffects 2.0 etc. The provided headphones are cheap, but which pmp has high quality headphones included?

More infos later, I'm in a hurry.
Current player: Cowon S9 Black + Sennheiser CX 300
Previous player: Meizu M6 SP Black

4 weeks and still no infos?
Are you still busy with something else?

I remember from video reviews that the interface is a bit slow. I have no idea if this has been improved with new firmwares. Do you feel the interface sometimes is slow and where?
