What is the M7?
This is a discussion on What is the M7? within the miniPlayer M7 forums, part of the Discontinued Meizu Products category; I have not heard of it so I was just wondering if anyone could post any photos of the preview ...

Check out our news article posted a while back: Mini Player M7 Taking Shape

Basically, it's supposed to be the M8 without phone capabilities.

Well... then all future non-phone products from Meizu could be called "M8 without phone capabilities".
I think it will have a significantly different design and to make it attractive, perhaps features that the M8 won't have. Can't wait to play with the Meizu MX!

I've received the good new here that M7 won't have WiFi which means that to browse the net won't be one of its target... for audiophile people this is a good new because we want to enjoy our media stuff not depending on the net. For that Mozilla Firefox is unbeatable... with a good keyboard to write freely.
Reviewing initial characteristics shown in some post here the screen of 2.81" is perfect for the purpose... I own and ONDA VX858 (2.8") which sports the perfect size IMHO for videos, photos and music in a good balance with costs.
This VX858 delivers an impressive sound (Wolfson driven) and excellent image... it also has a very primitive touchscreen... and a very poor and rudimentary interface (rockchip supported).
I also own a Cowon D2... the almost perfect machine if it weren't by 2.5" screen and the excessive tapped touchscreen interface.
I also own a M3 Meizu... another wonderful gem for ears and eyes.
Is a dream form me a combination of this three players... and Meizu can do it!... that's the M7!!!...
Meizu is capable of bring the required quality for a player... M3 is a high quality manufactured player.
Meizu is capable of produce the appropriate software... M3 has a good software not a good as Cowon D2... but more efficient as do things in a simpler way.
Meizu also knows how exciting is to change the appearance of a player... and had designed its more succesful players (M6 & M3) with such ability to proceed in a safe and handy way... the same as Cowon.
and Meizu also has the ability of learn... do not confuse this with "to clone" (an ancient word used by USA followers to justify their exorbitant prices)... to take what is good in players of the market and implement it.
I just hope that Meizu do not waste too much time in unnecessary effects (functions?) like those of iPod touch (flipping, multi-touch, accelerometer (?)) putting more real features like it is the awesome flash skins of Cowon, support of all possible formats and probably some video formats without conversion (like the poor Youtube FLV).
It's my dream machine.

Meizu should have WiFi in the M7. The good thing about the iTouch is that it has a kickass browser and WiFi.

I'm sure a lot of what Meizu is learning/doing with the M8 is going to find its way into their future players. For the home market, though, I can't see WiFi being much of a priority. Interesting, yes, but not very useful in China yet. The one wireless application I could see being a selling point would be a Zune-like sharing feature.

Thanked 0 Times in 0 Posts1) Good Lord , if M7 does not feature WiFi it is sure already a dead product here in France !
we get hundred of TV channels via the built in WiFi of our DSLmodem boxes ; ubiquitous handheld watching of TV on a Sony PSP , Apple iTouch , Archos 605, etc.. is quite nice ; those clever 'boxes' even feature live transcode to WiFi of many other sources ( DVD , net streams, etc..)
2) a 2.8" only M7 machine is then also already a dead product ! far too small ; anything below 3.5" is dead ; I even hope Apple will soon match the 4.25" PSP screen size ( 95><54mm) as even the actual 3,5" iTouch screen looks quite small in comparison ( 75><50mm)
.../... in the end you bring your own contradiction quoting the Cowon 2,5" screen is too small ; so adding a mere 0.3" in size (2.8) would not make any change if any sense

Thanked 0 Times in 0 Postsjust one too late wish ...
Meizu would have been well inspired releasing a really new M6 Sx with such 2.8" screen !
just any good while 'basic' 2.8" screen (Samsung or else ) that still runs 320*240 ...but with no need to rotated encode
thus the actual built in chip , while definitely anemic, could hopefully still drive such screen
adding 0.4" screen size while keeping the same box and design looked quite feasible
such unit could have kept competing with Apple Nano ; until an M7 comes out ...
just when Apple will release any revamped even more multi gifted iTouch

Thanked 0 Times in 0 Postsi really wanted to wait for the M7, but i finally decided to buy the archos 605 wifi last friday and i should be getting it this coming wednesday.
4gb flash, SD slot, 4.3 inch screen, wifi internet (need to buy the plug-in browser for $30) for a little less than $200 from Amazon. i would have preferred a smaller device for portability. maybe even a 2.8inch M7 would have been better. a 3inch screen would probably have been the perfect size for me.
i can't see myself giving up my M6, so i'll probably carry both devices around with me. i think the archos would be in my messenger bag most of the time while my M6 is in my pocket all the time. my gf is already teasing me that i'll be sorry that i bought the archos when the M8 is almost out and she'll be getting that for sure. i didn't have the heart to tell her that it's been delayed from the expected march release... tsk tsk.
her nokia 3220 phone is literally on its last legs... her M6 8gb is making her happy for now, tho.

Thanked 0 Times in 0 PostsHopefully, Meizu will support this product by hiring a couple of experienced programmers who continuously work on the firmware. So far, Meizu has shown little to no expertise when it comes to firmware enhancements and applications.
The M7 and M8 is even more complicated than the M6. They have been struggeling to fix M6 firmware issues and they couldn't even properly implement album art. I may purchase the m7 if the firmware is open source or if it's been hacked, not earlier.

Would you be so kind and post a review of your Archos 605 here in off-topic or in the nice cousin forum here

Thanked 0 Times in 0 Postsi will post a review, but would prefer to do it in the off-topic so i don't have to sign up and keep track of the other forum :D
i don't have Blackstar's abilities to dissect the audio quality, but hopefully can comment on general audio and video and wifi internet usability. i only listen to .mp3's...
maybe sometime late next week. i've read that it may have to be deep-charged for as much as 24 hours before first-time use.

Thanks tanayrizal... that concerning sound quality it's extremely subjective and I sincerely don't believe but in my own ears.
But concerning appearance, how it looks interface, if it works fine with list of artist, albums and songs, beside of that what you say will be really useful and clarifying.
