Backlight timer off problem?

Hello to all! This is my first thread here. So far I am very satisfied with miniplayer. I own 4Gb SP version. I already wrote about this problem on meizu forum, but got no explanation or response in this matter, so I hope here is someone who is able to help me. I have following problem regarding backlight off: I set this timer to 2 sec. and I expected that it will completely turn off screen, or at least completely turn off backlight. But all it does is that it sets backlight to its lowest setting. I am able to read screen further. I actually set my backlight for music on lowest, to reduce energy consumption and since then I don't notice difference before and after "backlight off". Only after longer period of inactivity, does screen turn completely off - the same way as if I hold M button. First of all, I would like to know if this is normal behavior, or is there something wrong with my player? I got player with latest firmware installed. I expected that it would work the same way it does on some other players and that backlight off actually means that, not just dimmed! Thank you for your input! Best Regards!

I have the same situation, but have concluded that this is normal. Off does not really mean off, until as you stated it is inactive for awhile. Now when you play music it will dim at your preset time and go to dim, but after a while of playing music the screen will go black!

WT Hope this helps!

maybe I am wrong but isnt there is a difference between the backlight being off and the display being off? The backlight can be off and the display will still be somewhat visible as the display itself is still functional.
After a few minutes the display itself will turn off too...

so actually the backlight is totally off... just not the display

Yes you are right, there is a difference. But under backlight off I understand that backlight goes completely off, so screen is barely readable under strong light. But it does not work that way - it is readable in total darkness - so backlight is not turned off, it is just set to lowest number = 1! Try to set your backlight to lowest for music and set backlight off to 2 seconds - is there any difference? Thank you all for input so far! BR

The backlight will stay on for the number of seconds you set it to.
It still means the screen is functioning, just that the backlight is turned off to save battery. You know, if you can see the screen just a little bit, it still means the backlight is off?

The screen will completely turn off (ie, go completely black) after a period of inactivity. This is completely normal - M6 does it to save a lot of battery power. This not only happens whilst listening to music - it also happens when you are charging your MP3 via computer or wall, when you are not touching your MP3 player.

To turn the screen completely off (ie to black screen), press and hold the M button for 2.5 seconds. It will turn itself off, but if you are planning to put it on hold as well, I suggest you just hold the player and let it turn to the black screen by itself. Because once you turn the screen to black with the M button, holding the MP3 only turns the screen back on.

Hope this clears things up!

iversonjack:Thank you for your input, but I do understand what turn off and backlight off means. But my miniplayer does not function that way! Are you able to see your screen in total darkness, when backlight is off? Mine is readable and stays that way untill it turns off completely. It also emits light, so backlight is not off, is just set to lowest setting! What is your backlight setting for music? I set mine to minimum and the same is when the player switches to backlight off. Hope you understand me now? But I do understand difference between turned off screen -completely black non-functional, and backlight off - usable under external light. BR

just install the new firmware(when it comes out) it will significantly boast the battery life so you don't have to worry about backlight

Absolutely agree. But it is also annoying, when i use player before sleep in darkness and have to turn display off whenever I want to skip track or change volume. BTW, do you have the same "problem"? Or is it just me?
