how do you change this setting

the setting that says how long it is before the display turns off (but not the whole system, just the display turns black and you can still hear the music)?

there's no setting for that but you can hold down the M button for 2 secs and the backlight will be turned off.

Ive found another useful fix in FW 2.004.5

Upon playing a song, you put it on hold and turn off the backlight (by holding down the M), normally (previous firmwares) if you touch the touchpad BEFORE A CERTAIN TIME PERIOD the light will appear.

However, in the new firmware, once the backlight is turned off after hold key is on, the light wont come on even if you touch the touchpad right after.

This is useful when turning off the backlight before putting the player in your pocket.

Go to Settings > Display > Backlight Timer (if I remember correctly)

Yup, that's the one. But the player still keeps the backlight on at a very low value for 2 minutes after that time has passed. As posted above, hold the M key to fully turn it off.

The backlight timer adjusts the time the full lighting is on. The screen will be only dimmed after the backlight time's up, the dimmed lighting's time and the system shutdown time cannot be adjusted.
